Beautiful typefaces, handwriting and such ~

Having been a graphic designer for almost 20 years on and off, I have always loved letters, fonts, type and arranging them all. There are so many different fonts now that it just boggles my mind! Using a particular font can convey a mood or feeling you want to get across to the reader. But loving antiques and everything old, the fonts that represent very old handwriting are my favorites.

I love the beautiful handwriting used in old letters and documents. The kind that was produced using an old quill pen dipped in ink is just magical to me. People must have had the time to sit, relax, and concentrate on their letter formation. I've been thinking lately how much I would love to have a fountain pen. Just to write special words to include in my artwork. Not really a calligraphy pen but just a fountain pen.

Typography and penmanship
are such beautiful things to me ~

I also just love different ways of writing Dawn.

I also have a pretty good collection of fountain pens. I think I got hooked in 4th or 5th grade when we learned to use fountain pens.

Hi Dawn...I am with you...I am always enchanted by old autograph books, photo albums, postcards....the lettering is amazing. I agree, people just took the time...we all need to take the time.....

I love letters and fonts too. And I love finding notes in the margins of books, cookbooks, or on the front of a sewing pattern packet. I just uncovered a cigar box full of reciepts in my husbands grandmother's stuff. 1950's era reciepts - the writing is salesman scribbles and that is fun too.

I love the old "script" fonts myself!

I'm just here from Penny's to say congratulations on winning wee Rosie...I'm sure she'll be beautiful when Penny gets done with her!

Dawn...another thing that I also love!! I bought a calligraphy set one year and really enjoyed it but you have to do it everyday to keep good at it and I just don't have the time :( it is so fun though...I have always enjoyed writing ...now I can use the computer to create lovely words :) How cool is that!

Dawn, how wonderful to look at all the different fonts. I just love finding old hand written letters. Back in the time when people were taught to write so beautifully.

Dawn,
I too love the look of the old style penmanship. I bought a program called Spencerian Handwriting and have been practicing with a fountain pen. It is a bit difficult to learn but I've always admired pretty penmanship.

I adore fine lettering. It is such an art form. When I did drafting for a living I use to try out a few styles. My employer was very patient with me:).

I have a cousin who works as a calligrapher for Standford University. She does all their diplomas and certificates.

I really admire beautiful penmanship.
It's such a gentle art.

Did I know you were a graphic designer? So was I, before kids. It all ties in, doesn't it?

I learned calligraphy when I was a girl and also love a well written letter. It in itself is romantic. I used calligraphy to write my quilt labels as I think it gives them an extra special touch.

I adore typography. I think sometimes it is so overlooked. Of course I love old script fonts. Have you heard of Eduardo Recife of www.misprintedtype.com? He has beautiful free fonts. Also ones for purchase. I look at his site & just drool, it is so lovely. And always inspirational.

Hi Dawn, I too am a typography addict. I love the old, vintage handwriting styles we no longer see. Thank you for sharing this wonderful collection xo. May I please ask the name of the very first font displayed? I have some art work that this would be perfect for!
