Special days and special gifts!!!

I had been thinking and thinking of something wonderful
that I could make for my sweet friend Lisa's birthday this month.
She has the corner on the market of incredible supplies
in her studio, so what I could give her in that respect
would pale in comparison to her already amazing collection!

So...I finally decided I would make her a pair of pillows!
I ran across the prettiest pair of hand towels at Hobby Lobby
and knew they would look gorgeous as pillow fronts.
Plus, I knew the colors would be PERFECT in her home as well.

Here are the goodies that I used in creating her pillows!
All fabrics were pre-washed so they would already be preshrunk and
when it comes time to wash the slipcovers, they will still fit the inserts.

The ticking fabric was found at Walmart of all places! I love it. I knew it would
be beautiful as a small ruffle around and also for the ties in the back.
The other fabric I used was a drop cloth that coordinated perfectly after
I lightly bleached it in the wash.

I wanted a slouchy look on these I really think I achieved it!
I made the covers slightly over-sized and just love the look of them ~
The feather inserts can easily be removed when it comes time to
toss them into the washing machine!

My next challenge?
Trying to get these big ol' pillows to Texas!
They are about the size of a Euro pillow.
I'm trying this: one of those space bags you suck all the air out of!
They are a flat as a flitter now.
I'm going to build a box around them and see how that works!

I still have a few more gifts to gather for my precious friend but
these are finished!!!

Also, I have to show you my beautiful Mother's Day gift from
all of our boys!!!
A GORGEOUS CHANDELIER!!!!
Our son Brad works for a lighting company and
all of the boys chipped into get this beautiful fixture
for our dining room
PLUS
Brad installed it on Mother's Day too!
I absolutely love it!!!

Pretty, right?
I think it suits our little dining room just perfectly.

I'm adding a few things to my Etsy shop and wanted you to see as well.
I have GOT to start de-stashing some of this stuff!!!!
Really, my studio is about to BURST!
Here's a link to my shop if you'd like to take a peek:

I'm going to start adding things every day to try to
get rid of some of my hoard!!!

I hope you are doing so very good
and thank you always for stopping by to see me!

hugs and love,
Dawn

Feeling blessed ~

Hi sweet friends!!!
I'm so sorry I missed a few blogging days last week
but my mom and dad came to visit us last Wednesday and
We had not seen them since Christmas!!

They are so precious...they live in the North Georgia mountains
and had some friends on their street selling their mountain home
(their friends live in Myrtle Beach, SC)
and since they didn't visit their mountain home much....
well, they had brand, spankin' new leather La-Z-Boy furniture
they needed to get rid of and my precious parents bought it for us!!!!
At about 90% OFF!

So they delivered it to us last week and we are in HEAVEN now!
How blessed are we to have my sweet mama and daddy
always keeping us in mind ~

OH! And she also brought me a bundle of lace and
a teeny found nest...does she know me or what?

I'm working on one last tattered angel for a friend...
and will soon be moving on to something new ~
But you know I'll be sure to share her as soon as she's finished!

Until then...a few beautiful images for you ~

Wishing you a beautiful Monday precious friends!!!
hugs and love,
Dawn

A finished treasure box!

First, I scanned in a few wonderful, old photos for you ~
I love the little lamb in this first one!

I finally finished the treasure box I was working on!!

A few of you asked about my painting technique
and it really isn't anything special.

The box already had an aged finish with crackling and such.
It just wasn't the color that I wanted SO
I painted on a few coats of antique white craft paint (FolkArt)
then after that was dry,
I painted on a thin coat of watered down dark brown paint
(in sections), then wiped off the excess with a damp cloth.
After that was dry, I used an emery board to sand off a few places
here and there to add to the aged look.
That's it!
Here it is...

I sewed up a little luggage pocket for the lid and added ribbon
on each side to keep the lid from tilting all the way back.
Sheet music lines the inside, then I finished off with beautiful lace,
seam binding and trim...I'm so happy with the finished piece ~
And thankfully, so is my sweet friend who wanted it!

Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday precious friends,
hugs and love,
Dawn

Simple gifts for you...

It's a rainy, October Monday here in Georgia...
OCTOBER!
How in the world did that happen?

I have a few beautiful images
and poems for you today ~
I do hope you love them!!

There is a harmony
In autumn, and a lustre in its sky,
Which through the summer is not heard or seen,
As if it could not be, as if it had not been!

~ Percy Bysshe Shelley ~

Listen!  the wind is rising,
and the air is wild with leaves,
We have had our summer evenings,
now for October eves!

~ Humbert Wolfe ~

Crispy air and azure skies,
High above, a white cloud flies,
Bright as newly fallen snow.
Oh the joy to those who know October!

Colors bright on bush and tree.
Over the weedy swamp, we see
A veil of purple and brown and gold.
Thy beauty words have never told. October!

Scolding sparrows on the lawn,
Rabbits frisking home at dawn,
Pheasants midst the sheaves of grain,
All in harmony acclaim, October!

Brown earth freshly turned by plow,
Apples shine on bended bough,
Bins o'erflowed with oats and wheat,
And satisfaction reigns complete. October!

Radiant joy is everywhere.
Spirits in tune to the spicy air,
Thrill in the glory of each day.
Life's worth living when we say, October!

~ Joseph Pullman Porter ~

I am rich today with autumn's gold,
All that my covetous hands can hold;
Frost-painted leaves and goldenrod,
A goldfinch on a milkweed pod,
Huge golden pumpkins in the field
With heaps of corn from a bounteous yield,
Golden apples heavy on the trees
Rivaling those of Hesperides,
Golden rays of balmy sunshine spread
Over all like butter on warm bread;
And the harvest moon will this night unfold
The streams running full of molten gold.
Oh, who could find a dearth of bliss
With autumn glory such as this!

~ Gladys Harp ~

Wishing you all a wonderful Monday my precious friends,
hugs and love,
Dawn

Old, a little stained, yet oh-so-beautiful ~

These little items would normally be forgotten ~
maybe tossed into a drawer or even the trash.

They are old, stained and don't seem
to have a specific purpose anymore.

Fragments of lace....old thread that has age speckles from the years ~
odd lengths of trims left over from a previous project.

That's no matter though, right??
For me they have a beautiful purpose.
They make me smile and
truly inspire my creative spirit!!!!!

A few found treasures at Antique Griffin today!

Even the gorgeous old labels make me swoon :)

I hope you are having a beautiful December weekend,
hugs and love,
Dawn
