Something a little new ~

A friend of mine had a special request.
She has inherited her grandmother's crochet needles
and wanted a "book" similar to my needle books
but larger to keep them in.

So....this is what I made!!!
It measures about 7" wide x about 8" high when it is closed.
It really does look like one of my needle keeps!!!
I so hope she loves it ~

Here's an in-progress photo, with pins and lace all over the place.
I made my own pattern using a few crochet hooks that I had.

And yes, I dipped into my yummy stash of lace!!!
It's so much easier to find what I need now that
I've organized it. I have two suitcases full of these treasures...
you can NEVER have enough!
I always say, you can't make beautiful things
if you don't have beautiful supplies ~

The inside first page. Each page has a flap so the crochet hooks don't slide out.
Thank you Vee of A Haven for Vee for sharing that little tip with me!!

I pulled the hooks out a little bit to hold the flap up so you can see the skinny pockets.

The inside center ~

And back page. It will hold sixteen crochet hooks!!

I ended up taking apart a beautiful pair of vintage clip-on earrings and sewed
them to the front. Since this book was bigger, the adornments needed to be larger too.

So there you have it.
I hope she loves it!!!

Thank you always for stopping by to see what I'm up to dear friends ~

Wishing you a great Tuesday!
hugs and love,
Dawn

I really am dreaming of a white Christmas ~

I know that Thanksgiving isn't even here yet (but it IS next week!) but I'm already thinking of Christmas. I love the elegance and the simplicity of a white Christmas. Not really snow, as we don't really get much snow here in Georgia, but white as in the decorations. Mixed with silver, gold and crystal ~ white has such an elegance to me.

I have this gorgeous book by Tricia Foley, White Christmas, and what's amazing is that the copyright is 1997 but the elegance inside is absolutely timeless. White is classic and beautiful ~

Some of these images are from the Country Living mag website too ~

I'm not just talking white either. Vanilla, creams and ecru are beautiful hues mixed in. It's soothing and relaxing, most of all, peaceful ~

I remembered that awhile back I bought some embossed wallpaper for a furniture project I was painting. This paper is so neat ~ you paste it on and then paint it too! Well, I had a kitchen cupboard that someone had wallpapered the panels of the doors and I just couldn't remove it. So I bought this and papered right over top and painted it all the same color. It turned out beautiful and sold really quickly too! The wallpaper has the look of old ceiling tiles to me, but on a much smaller scale.

How about I use this paper to wrap a few gifts this year? Accented by snippets of greenery and ribbon, I think it would look just beautiful ~ or even cones filled to the brim with candies...

I wonder how white feather boas from the craft store would look as garland?

White or cream hankies tucked inside cones hung on the tree ~

We'll see what our tree turns out looking like but I'm definitely dreaming white!

I can't get the little crocheted hat off my mind. The one for our new granddaughter? I know I purchased one but still want to make her one as well. I dug out all of my crochet supplies and discovered I had purchased some yellow cotton yarn just like the beautiful white that I just bought the other day to make her a hat!!!

Plus I found a project that I'd started a while ago ~ I thought I'd make a scarf out of this amazing chenille yarn but don't really know now :) I do love this yarn though!

I've even printed out a few free instructions to help me but yikes, what language is this??

Oh well, we'll see ~ maybe I should stick to my other artwork. I just have this thing in me that wants to learn new things!!
Another little gathering of beautiful buttons in honor of International Button Week!!

Wishing you a wonderful Tuesday sweet friends ~

Treasures don't have to cost a fortune ~

I found a few more treasures when I was out shopping yesterday ~ Do you love doll clothes? I don't know why but they are so adorable to me! Especially white, cream and pastel colored items. I always pick them up when the price is good and these were only about 2.00 for all four pieces! I want to create something with them but haven't quite gotten to that yet.

The linens are old and need a nice, gentle wash but look at the detail on the doily in the center! Just beautiful and a .50 each I knew these wonderful old linens, stains and all, were coming home with me!

This old pillowcase is stained quite bad but the stitchery is so pretty ~ and look at the pink birds!! I've used these edges as flaps on pillows that I've sewn before. Or maybe transformed into a lavender sachet?

I ended up at Target after my little antique shopping spree and look what was on the clearance shelf?! The same notecards that I featured on my blog a few months back! I think they are wonderful so I grabbed a package of these. They were around 4.50 or 4.98 a package ~

Also on clearance, these three ring binders. Aren't they so pretty? I'm not sure what I'm putting in them but for only 2.50 each they were another must have!

One other little bag I bought at the antique store contained a broken strand of pearls and a broken pin ~ BEAUTIFUL! Why are the broken, old objects so wonderful? Because they have potential and possiblity. They could be transformed into a simple cluster on a button bottle or an adornment on an assemblage. Turning a broken, forgotten trinket into a beautiful centerpiece truly brings me bliss!

Wishing you a wonderful Thursday ~ xxoo, Dawn
