A touch of Spring!

I've had this amazing vintage jar for years.
It used to have a collection of antique door knobs
displayed inside.
You know, the crystal and white porcelain ones?

They're sold now but I've been wanting to create something
for the inside. It didn't come with a lid but I didn't care.

I enjoy embellishing bird's nests so I thought an assemblage
that included one would be beautiful tucked inside!

This particular nest is store bought.
And I love the look of this one.
I knew if I added few natural
elements in and around the nest
I could give it a realistic look.

And here is the finished assemblage!
I used a small circle of cardboard wired to the nest
and elevated the back a bit with moss inserted in between.

Next, I added skeleton leaves, dried botanicals, feathers (all glued discreetly)
to give it that realistic look. And lastly of course I had to add speckled eggs!

I glued the base that I cut from cardboard to the bottom of the jar so it will
stay put and of course not shift during shipping.

A small section of a vintage bird book was placed behind
and also a branch with seed pods serves as a back drop too.

The top has been covered with a piece of natural scrim, secured with a rubber band
then wrapped in jute to continue the natural theme.

I even managed to squeeze in a sweet gum tree pod too!

I really love the way this piece turned out!
And now this wonderful old jar has a new purpose
and a promise of Spring ~

I've also added it to my Etsy store if you'd like to take a peek!

Just a short post this time but
thank you always for stopping by
to see what I'm up to!

Hugs and love,
Dawn

Make something beautiful...it's soothing to the soul!

Creating beautiful things can be such wonderful therapy!

I've made a few pretty things lately and creating always soothes my soul.
A bird's nest assemblage on a tray and I'm making sweet
dried roses test tube ornaments!

Here are a few photos:

And this is the condition of my work table today!
So many different elements but I'm filling glass test tubes with
gorgeous dried roses.

This one is listed in the store...but I'm working on more.
Why does everything look so much more beautiful under glass???

Thank you always for stopping by to see what I'm doing!

Hello November!!!

It seems that this time of year ALWAYS gets my creative juices flowing!
The cooler temperatures and the changing of the seasons
makes my mind spin with all kinds of ideas.

Here are a few of the things that I've made lately.
It seems all of them are under glass for some reason!

Please be sure to check my Etsy store as a few things have
been listed in there and some of these items have already sold.

Does fall inspire you to create too???

Two altered apothecary jars with French labels
and other pretty embellishments!

This one is in my shop!!!

These have all sold but I just LOVED making these bird-inspired jars.
Nests, eggs and pieces of nature all captured under glass ~

And lastly, I've been making ornaments using 6" glass test tubes!
They are approximately 1" in diameter. I've added glitter snow,
a tiny bottle brush tree and other goodies to make a pretty Christmas ornament.
They can hang on a knob or on the Christmas tree!

And of course, loving natural elements, I had to try to make a few botanical test tubes.
They are my very favorites! I love drying flowers and other greenery
so I've made little gatherings for each test tube.

It's so nice to be able to use the things that you've been gathering and collecting.
I have dried flowers everywhere, stems from pretty bushes,
feathers and other fragments of nature to use.
But it seems when you place them under glass
it gives them a special kind of importance!

Thank you always for stopping by to see what I'm doing and
I hope that I can inspire you to make something beautiful ~

hugs and love,
Dawn

Sweet spring ~

I don't know exactly when it happens.
One day you are shivering and looking for cozy throws
then slowly but surely
the temperature climbs to a wonderful level
and then you REALIZE something!
It feels like spring!!!

We've been having beautiful, mild weather
for the past few days here in Georgia.
It's such a nice change and always welcome.

Believe me, we cherish our delightful 70 degree weather.
Here in Georgia we relish each and every minute of it
because we will blink and
it will be boiling and 90 degrees before we know it!!!

Well, I think these beautiful days have inspired me.
I actually created a new piece of artwork!!!

It's been quite a while since I made an assemblage.
I had this precious little birds nest that
I'd purchased in a ziploc baggy
at an antique store.

I kept staring at it knowing it should be the feature
of a new nature assemblage.

Here's what I came up with!

Isn't it funny how something as simple as the weather
can inspire us to create?

I hope life is treating you good ~
As always, thank you so much for stopping by
to see what I'm up to around here!!
hugs and love,
Dawn

A tiny treasure ~

I've always loved small things,
I can't help it!

I found several tiny drawers a while back and
had to buy them.

I think they must be from an old jewelry chest
or something because
they aren't too tiny but are very small.

ANYWAY...
I created a teeny nest assemblage inside one of the drawers.
It stands a mere 4 3/4" tall ~
First it was painted then antiqued and lined...
and then I added
a store-bought nest inside.
I embellished it with the smallest speckled eggs and
fluffy feathers as well.

A dear friend of mine purchased this and I so hope
that she loves it!!!!

I lined the interior of the drawer with beautiful birch bark wrapping paper
that I found at TJ Maxx....
the tiny pieces of the puzzle come together to create
a precious keepsake for my dear friend!!!

Wishing you a beautiful Tuesday,
hugs and love,
Dawn

The beauty of nature ~

I admit it.
I just love working with natural elements!
Gathered bird's nests, blown speckled eggs,
feathers, branches...moss...and more.

These items are already beautiful in their own right.
All I do is place them in my assemblage
where I feel they are shown in their best light.

I finished the clock case assemblage and am so pleased ~
but I have to admit,
it is HARD working from the back of a piece!

The beautiful thing about this assemblage is that
I had a wonderful regular customer contact me
and want to buy it, sight-unseen
before I even finished it!!!
That was a wonderful blessing
and encouraged me to finish it right away.

Here is the assemblage ~
These aren't the best pics but it's hard to photograph through the glass!

So just remember dear friends....
simply BEGIN!!!

Wishing you a beautiful Thursday and Fourth of July ~
all of our plans have been rained out here in Georgia
but we hope to have a family gathering Saturday!

hugs and love,
Dawn
