A wonderful find & a sweet gift from a friend ~

I was looking around on Ebay the other day because I just love searching for certain things and came across the most wonderful book with bird illustrations AND poetry!!

Guess the price....you're not going to believe this but.... .99 cents!!! The shipping was a couple of dollars so I was one happy girl! It's in wonderful condition and just look at a few of the illustrations inside ~
I guess it was just meant to be mine!

A special package arrived from a sweet blogging friend....Sharon of SharDon Exclusives ~ she's so sweet to me and wanted to send me a goodie box, just take a look at the treasures!!! All kinds of bits and bobs to use in my artwork, this little wrapped box held even more gifts!

She's not only an amazing jewelry designer but wonderful with paper too!! Look at the precious bookmarks, embellished crystal
and my very own nest pin!!!!

Feathered Friends ~

That is the name of my little artwork for you ~ as I feel that we are all such a network of friends....

This is where I stopped today and I should finish it with just a few more additions. I've layered papers, aged the edges with brown ink and even given the bird image a bit of a lift off of the background with a scrap piece of thick cardboard box! And you know how I'm loving cheesecloth....I had to add a bit of it as well ~

The eggs have been painted and speckled ~

I've pulled fibers from the cheesecloth to add to the nest (store bought from Hobby Lobby) with a large needle (still in the photo) ~









I'll embellish the nest using hand picked feathers from my collection!

Have I ever mentioned a wonderful website that I love..... Pandora.com ~ it's an online radio station that you have NO commercials, you type in an artist you like, say Enya, and then you create your own Enya radio station! So then as you view your emails you can be relaxing to beautiful music! I also have a Thomas Newman radio station. Pandora plays music similar to that artist as well as their own songs.....just a little tidbit for you to enjoy!



Oh another thing I wanted to tell you.....you know I've been posting alot :) and have now for 2 years today! Well, I used every single bit of my memory for my photo storage on my blog....yes, it does run out but you have to post A TON of photos for it to happen. I think they give you 1 GB of photo storage (blogspot) and for 20.00 I purchased 10GB more, so now I'm good to go for a ton more posts!!!!

The little bird girl ~

I finished my altered baby dress!! I added the two pockets that I had shown earlier and a tiny pocket at the top just for found feathers! The little egg charm hangs from a rustic hanger that I made from a twig and twisted wire. A handmade tag with speckled eggs, a twig and birch bark are in one pocket and a little nest is in the other. I love the way it turned out!! It's not a dress to be worn though, just displayed....I do have a few little dresses I want to make for Clara though! You could even tuck in a few more nature finds!!

Some beautiful things for you to see ~

I thought while visiting with the family in the evenings this past weekend I would sit and go through yet another file of clippings that I had stowed away. These are the oldest that I own and I had been wanting to see what I would still love and what I would want to toss.

There were a lot of beautiful pages that I kept that were timeless, classic ideas that were just as beautiful today as they were ten or more years ago. You know the magazine they were from?? Yes, Victoria! But there were plenty from others but seems as those from Victoria still make me 'sigh'......

Here is a beautiful botanical image I scanned that I've been wanting to give you ~ I hope you can use it in your artwork in some way or just frame it!! Just right click to save to your computer ~

Well, Brent and Emily are back in Savannah safe and sound. The house is quiet and we all miss them so much. I can only hope that someday soon they will live closer to us so I can get my hands on our sweet grandbaby as often as I can! Oh, and Thursday morning is the ultrasound!!! I'm counting the days.....have a wonderful Monday!!

The chubby bird gets a makeover ~

I think I called her a "he" in the first post about this little bird, but she's definitely a "she" now ~ Seems as though I love making things into girls! Adorned with vintage pearl eyes, antique lace and buttons, trim and seam binding with a sweet old clock face on her collar . . . I barely tinted her beak and cheeks, just to add a blush of color. She's stuffed with fiberfill and has one little river rock inside her belly to weigh her down.

The strange thing about me and creating is I love making things . . . once. But if I have to duplicate one item over and over . . . I just don't do well. Are you like that? I may try this little bird pattern that I created again. Maybe using a different fabric ~ She will be in my Etsy store!!

UPDATE: This sweet little bird has been SOLD and will be flying off to join Stacey at The Blessed Nest!

Today Brent, Emily and Noah took the fishing poles and did a little exploring and trying to find a a good fishing spot. They didn't get very lucky but had a great time together walking and being out in the fall weather. Tonight DH made his amazing lasagne and garlic bread then for dessert I made a humongous peach cobbler . . . you know the cup, a cup, a cup recipe? It's easy peasy:

EASY PEACH COBBLER

1 8x8 casserole dish, sprayed with non-stick spray

with 1 stick of butter or margarine (1/2 cup) melted in the bottom

1 cup of self-rising flour placed in a bowl

1 cup of sugar placed in the bowl too

1 cup of milk in the bowl as well

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp vanilla

stir till all ingredients are well blended

Pour in over melted butter

Open BIG can of sliced peaches, drain and put into batter evenly.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 min. or until top is golden brown. Remove from oven and sprinkle with a dusting of sugar!

I have the most wonderful surprise to show you!

OMGoodness.....I have the most wonderful friends here in this land of blog!! I received the most thoughtful gift Tuesday from Kathy at Shocking Pink Thread ~ a beautiful old book about bird homes!!! She had it wrapped so sweet, in vintage wallpaper no less ~ tied with antique lace, tulle, ribbon, flowers and bird tags....it was all so very beautiful and I saved each and every thing.

When I opened this treasure up, I could not believe my eyes!!!! Kathy!! Thank you so, so very much for this beautiful gift, I will treasure it always and I promise to scan and share some of these with all of you too! Just take a look:

Brent and Emily arrived Tuesday afternoon! We were all so glad to see them and see Emily's sweet baby belly too! I've already been pulling out the boxes of baby things that I've saved and have given her some goodies....today I'm going to be digging for more ~ I love giving her things that were Brent's and she's appreciates them so much.
