Artful Pages - 4 artists 4 ways

There were once four different friends who loved book arts.
They each had different styles of doing their art, each one special and beautiful.
One did art journaling, another altered books,
a third loved gluebooks and the fourth created pages from fabric and paper.

They decided to share their styles with each other,
and with you, by creating a one-of-a-kind online class.
There's no other course like this one, combining 4 different ways to enjoy book arts,
to experiment with different styles and to learn brand new methods and disciplines.

I had to share with you a little excerpt from Mary's new class that she's just started,

I've always loved Mary of Green Paper's taste.....
Please take a peak at this great group of artists and
all they are wanting to share with you!!!!
New techniques and new ways of creating ~
you can't go wrong :)

Have a great week and a wonderful Monday!!!
hugs and love,

What makes you happy?

It doesn't take much to make me happy...6 bucks will do! I found this amazingly old book while treasure hunting yesterday, and just LOOK at the date...1855!!! My goodness!!! And for six dollars? Honey, you are MINE!

Yes, the pages are stained and spotted with age. There are even pages missing ~ but who cares. What is important is that this wonderful old book is still here, after so many years.

I love the embossed cover and the beautiful old handwriting inside ~

And there was this precious image inside that made me think of you ~
and how much you would love it!!!

Such good stuff to share with you:

Just LOOK at the precious snowman that Marianne of Songbird made from my tutorial in Artists Class!!!! I absolutely LOVE him sitting on a box....can you tell what special job he will have for her holiday gathering?? :) He's so wonderful Marianne, thank you so much for sharing him with me!

You've got to see these eco-friendly Christmas ideas from Mitzi on Mitzie's Collectibles Blog! What's so neat, is that I have several of these ornament boxes that I've saved not knowing what to do with them! I knew they had wonderful graphics but....what to do with them?
Well, now you know.....

I hope you have a great Friday sweet friends!!!

Snowman love.....

Look at this precious ornament that Diana of Vintage Blue Studio made from my snowman tutorial!!!!!

The wonderful thing about tutorials is that they are just instructions on technique, but after that....you add your own special touch, colors, and design!!!

I absolutely love it Diana!!! xxoo, Dawn

It's good to fluff ~

As much as I love making things, artwork and treasures ~ it does feel good to take a break and give some much needed attention to our home. I tend to just make do when I'm in my creating mode but with the holidays fast approaching, my parents coming for Thanksgiving and staying with us, I want to have a cozy guest room waiting for them. This is the first guest room we've had in a long, long, long while!!

I'm slowly making progress and need to kick it up a notch this week. But I just HAD to show you what my precious friend Karin brought me when she visited the other day!! Two swing arm rods PERFECT for the vintage sheers on either side of the bed!!!!!

I have to hang the mirror, pictures, and other goodies ~ I still have another set of sheers and want to use them in the room too and may layer the window treatment. I have to mull things over for a little while....And I want to make a few cream and ivory toile pillows for the bed, and maybe a few with antique lace and muslin.

Thank you so much Karin, the rods are just PERFECT!!!

Oh and I have some wonderful news!!!
You can now purchase any of the tutorials
from Artist Class INDIVIDUALLY!
~ Just click here to see the list ~

You can still buy the entire class if you'd like

For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,

Sweet is the breath of vernal shower,
The bee's collected treasures sweet,
Sweet music's melting full, but sweeter yet
The still small voice of gratitude.

I'm so thankful for your friendship, your kindness and inspiration,
Have a great Monday dear friends ~

Gorgeous things ~

Subtle shades, flowing fabrics and all things cream to sepia,
soft sage to pale rose ~
these are the things that make me smile....

I've always loved hydrangeas,
but there is something about the colors
as they fade and dry, so soft and subdued....

Such beautiful linens found here....

Can you believe these amazing ring bearer pillows?
I would love to have one! Found here...

Lori has a tutorial in Artist Class showing us how to create an beautiful embellished box. She provided a link to her source on ebay that sells crinkled silk to use in the project. This is what I bought to make it!! I hope it comes in the mail today.....

If you've not signed up for Artist Class, registration is still open for a couple more weeks! The great thing about this class is there are SO many projects, information and images. PLUS the blog will be accessible through February. Even then, if you don't get around to creating all of the artist's projects, you're provided with downloadable tutorials to save on your computer! That way, you can make them when you have time. Click HERE if you would love to register and type in the code: thefeatherednest for 10.00 off the price!!

So what can you do with a $5 mirror?

I forgot to show you something else we found last weekend while in the mountains. My husband has a good eye for knowing what I love and also for finding a great deal!! Well, he found this beautiful mirror for only FIVE DOLLARS! Yes, the mirror finish is a little mottled and their were chunks of the mirror paint that were completely gone ~ it didn't matter, I loved it!!

When I saw how easily the mirrored finish was flaking off, I remembered an idea I saw somewhere, maybe you can remember where....but you use paint stripper on the back side of the mirror to remove part of the finish to expose the clear glass. I've been wanting to do this FOREVER and finally found the perfect mirror to experiment the technique!

The paper backing was already gone so I cleaned the front and back with a wet rag, a little dish soap and dry paper towel. I took the mirror outside, laid it face down and painted the stripper on the back. Not over the entire back, I wanted it to have a natural look to it so I left around the edges solid but in the center I blobbed it on pretty thickly. I used a gel stripper too. I waited 30 minutes and scraped what I could off. I had to apply the stripper three separate times to achieve the look that I ended up with. If I were to get a razor blade I could scrape a little more off but I would have to do it carefully as I wouldn't want it to "look" scraped.

So now I need to decide what to place in the new opening!! I used a couple of prints my sweet friend Marcie sent me just to give you an idea of what it will look like ~ I think I'm going to get an image that I love enlarged to place in the opening....I'll be sure to share photos when I finish it!
Maybe I'll take the photo with the mirror in front of a blank wall, not my cluttered studio :)

The mittens are coming along...they still need a little sparkly snow dust!!!

I'd like to introduce you to another new blogger friend of mine!! You have GOT to see her amazing photography....AMAZING.....her Photoshop skills are very evident in her beautiful art ~ Please visit Anji of Distractions when you get a moment and you can see more of her art HERE.

And I HAVE to share with you the gorgeous project that Lori of Faerie Window has contributed to Artist Class!!! This beautiful embellished box ~ I've got to make one!

And one last little goodie, Sandy of Quill Cottage
is having a giveaway of her beautiful Autumn banner
that she created for Artist Class!!!
There are so many wonderful projects offered ~

She's giving away the actual banner that she created while making the tutorial ~

Breathtaking.

It truly was...absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful ~
My parents live in the north Georgia mountains
and it was so good to see them!!
We left Friday afternoon around 3:00 pm
hoping to get ahead of the awful Friday afternoon traffic.
No such luck.
What should have been a 3 hour trip
turned into a 5 hours!
But it was fine, because this is what we awoke to Saturday morn....

The view behind my parent's house standing on their deck ~

We headed out early Saturday morning
so we could squeeze in as much fun as we could!
These are some of the photos I took ~
I hope you don't feel like your at the neighbor's house
looking at vacation slides!!

Do you think Heaven will look like what you love??
If so....Heaven will look like this to me ~

We went junkin' as there were tons of yard sales all
around the town of Hiawassee ~ They were
taking advantage of all the leaf-lookers that were visiting.
I found some wonderful
goodies that I'll share later on!
