A little art, a little organizing and a precious gift!

I can't even believe it's already getting close to the end of January!
Seems the time flies by faster and faster as I get older.

I DID actually create something in the last few days!!!
This is an old clock case we've had for years and my husband
had the idea of me turning it into a nest assemblage.
Of course, he was right!
And it turned out so precious!!!

It being only 4" wide I had to use a very teeny nest.
I lined the interior with a wonderful mesh fabric,
embellished the nest with feathers and fragments of moss tucked here and there.
And then of course, added three tiny speckled eggs.
The top is tied with scraps of silk sari ribbon and an antique woven piece.

Don't you just love small things? They are my very favorite.
A dear blog friend purchased this piece last night as a gift to her husband!

As I was cleaning up the studio last week
I thought I'd share some of my antique lace collection.

Now this is not stored in some fancy antique chest but a new
plastic drawer thingee but it does serve it's purpose.
I took a photo of the contents of each drawer to share with you.
This is not ALL of my lace but some of my very favorite antique pieces...

Here is the contraption that I'm using.
They are not that attractive but work beautifully!

I'm trying to tag boxes so it will be easier for me to locate things.
It's terrible when you are looking for elements and can't remember where you put them!

I've even been organizing my button collection!!!

Dried roses and beautiful pieces of bark...

And yes, I have a thing for teddy bears!
They decided they wanted a selfie for me to share with you! HAHAHA!

THIS is the precious gift that I wanted to share with you!!!
As you know we lost our sweet Ellie girl back in November.
Well, a dear blog friend that I've know for YEARS wanted to
needle felt me a small replica of our precious pup.
LOOK AT HOW AMAZING SHE IS!!!!

Can you even believe it??
If you would like to request something for yourself
from my dear friend Cheryl Goode MacKinnon,
you can find her on Instagram HERE
or you can email her at zanymaydoriginals@yahoo.com.

Thank you ALWAYS for visiting me here on my little blog!!
Wishing you an amazing week dear friends ~
Hugs and love,

I'm finally getting the hang of it!!!

So you ask "What are you talking about??"
I'm talking about wire wrapping my beautiful antique buttons!
But first, look at how wonderful our sedum succulents are doing in the birdbath!!!

They love this Georgia heat and get afternoon storms every now and then.
I love that they grow over the sides and drape down!

In other news...I'm almost to my real, really real, salt and pepper hair color!!!
I have it cut super short for this hot, humid summer but thought I'd share with you.
I miss my dark hair but oh well, I was so sick and tired of coloring it.

This is what I think I'm finally getting the hang of!!!
Wire wrapping and jewelry making. Practice makes perfect they say
and it is SO very true.
I'm not perfect yet but have finished a few pretty pieces and am pleased.
I wanted to share them with you
and a few other pretty things that I've listed in my Etsy store!
Also, shipping is all free in the US!

Here is the link if you'd like to take a look: MY ETSY STORE

These are sweet lavender sachets! Perfect for favors at a baby or wedding shower!!!

A beautiful plate for hanging that I've had for years!

And this is a gathering of vintage Christmas stockings!!!

All have been listed in my Etsy shop!!!

I'm trying so hard to be more creative now that we've settled into our new home.
Once I step into our wonderful studio...
the atmosphere inspires me so much!!!

Thank you always for stopping by to see what I'm up to!

Hugs and love,
Dawn

A little something new ~

Today has been such a good day.
I've met so many precious friends in my blogging journey and
today I was able to speak to a dear friend who lives in France
and it. was. WONDERFUL!

Her life has been very busy and we haven't spoken in such a long time.
Sue has been on my mind lately and she can call my phone for free and
then just a few days ago she called to catch up!!!

I couldn't talk at that time but she called back today and we caught up
with each other's lives and all that is going on.

It's just beautiful what this blog has given me.
Friends near and far...some close by some on the other side of the world!
But we all have common threads and love the same things.
THAT is what bonds us together.

I gathered some lace together today and decided to make a bunting!!
It is simply cut from a pattern that I found online and I cut the lace,
raw edges and all, to use on my bunting.

I folded over the top edge onto a long length of seam binding and sewed it down.
You could easily use fabric glue to do this though!
I tied a few seam binding bows on each end and accented the corners of each one
with pretty vintage buttons (just glued on with Fabri-tac!)

It sold quickly from my shop but I still wanted to share it with you here ~
I know many of you have the supplies around to make your own!!

I just love using old, forgotten lace pieces to make something pretty!!!!

Thank you always for stopping by to see me here ~
hugs and love,
Dawn

A change of heart ~

I had originally thought that I would use my new seam binding fringe
on a stocking I started a few weeks ago BUT
it just wasn't working for me.

The more I stared at it, the longer I let it sit in my studio!
Plus, I didn't care for the slanted opening I had made
for my stocking pattern either. That didn't help a bit!

But after mulling it over for waaaay too long, I chopped the top off
the stocking and began playing with lace and trims.
And the strangest thing?
I pulled out a pretty little satin doll dress that the top was torn and
chopped the skirt off to use on the stocking too!

I finally finished it last night and am so pleased with the way
it finally turned out....
and what about the fringe I made?
It's going on a new project of course!

Here's my stocking ~ it's approx. 20" long.
Now listed in my Etsy store too!

Now that I've finished that project,
it's time to get crackin' on some new goodies!!

I hope you're having such a wonderful week precious friends ~
Happy Thursday!

hugs and love,
Dawn

Random goodness ~

We had a WONDERFUL Fourth of July weekend around here
I so hope you did as well!!!
Just a little swimming, cooking out and spending time
with our precious family.
I don't have too much to blog about but will always re-share
something I think that you may love to inspire you!

I sewed this little doll dress a few years back....and aged it as well.
Seeing this photo makes me want to make a few more!!
I wonder if they would sell in my Etsy shop?

Don't you just love beautiful old book covers?
This one was falling off of an old book I bought,
so I scanned it....click on it a couple of times to see how big it is!

I love, LOVE botanicals and tinted these
so they would be sepia toned ~
I still love them so...

The pic below is random but still thought it was good to share again ~
you all know I'm a freak for seam binding!
Don't forget to visit Zipperstop to buy your seam binding
and remember to tell Jeff that
The Feathered Nest sent you!!!

 Sweet old woman....

One of my favorite images....EVER!

And I'll leave you with a wonderful photo
I took of the antique store I used to own ~
this was the little bitty front porch all dolled up!
Those are gauzy curtains that are hung near each post.
See the "P" on the painted door?
It is one of those vinyl sticker things...neat idea, huh?
The shop was call The Plum Tree Antiques ~
sometimes I miss it but then again, I really don't...
it was fun while it lasted though!

Thank you always for visiting me here
and especially for your precious comments!!!

Have a wonderful Monday dear friends!
hugs and love,
Dawn
