I have had this little bird on my mind for the longest time! I've wanted to draw out a pattern and try it and this is what I ended up with!! It's not perfect but I'm loving the chubbiness of it and what's so cool is that I added a river stone to the inside before sewing the opening closed so he's a bit weighted. I placed a little pin about where his eye will be but I'm thinking of decorating him now....maybe with a little vintage lace? I need to change the pattern just a little bit here and there but he does look like what I had envisioned ~ plus drop cloth fabric isn't perfect for EVERY project, it frays pretty easily and that's not good when working with small pattern pieces.
I wanted to share with you a really neat magazine I found today. Now, I'm not a big Martha fan as her look is a little to stark and mod for me as I love more of a romantic/cluttered :) look but this magazine is chock full of ideas for Christmas gifts! I bought it especially because of the lamb pattern! I love lambs and am thinking this one would be so precious for the grandbaby!! Oh and we find out in only TWO weeks if we're having a boy or a girl!
I hope I showed you enough to give you an idea of all that's inside. And to be honest, I don't even remember there being any ads in it at all!
Sharing neat magazines with your friends?
It's a good thing! :)
I hope you have a great Saturday,
xxoo, Dawn

You need to start going to bed earlier. Saw the time on the post. I'm off to the flee market it's early morning, but I wanted to say thanks for your kind words about my article. It made me feel a bit better about it. Blessings...sherry
Very cute birdie! Can't wait to see what it looks like once you've embellished it, too! Thanks for the fun Martha pics.
You're so smart to make your own bird pattern! He's a sweetie. Have fun with the embellishments--to me, that's the best.

I love your little bird. It is precious. I hope you'll share the finished version with us. I too love magazines...
I can't believe you actually made a pattern...it's wonderful! I can't even follow a pattern, so I'm duly impressed with your abilities. Your blog is so much fun for the creatively-challenged!
Cute Bird!
Thanks for telling us about the magazine. It looks wonderful. I'll look for it here in our neck of the woods.
I love your chubby little bird, he is adorable. I saw another new publication on the stands yesterday by Mary Engelbreit, It was called, Home Companion,Guide to Creative Living. It looked interesting but it had way too many adds and resource pages and not enough content for me. I'll wait and see if it improves before I buy it. Martha's looks worth checking out.
I am sure your little lamb will love the cuddly lamb. Boy or girl you will be thrilled with either.
Happy Saturday!
Hmmm, might be time to invest in a Martha Stewart magazine. Your little birdie is so cute...and about to be a whole lot cuter.
Dawn, you did great with the bird pattern you made. It's not easy to draw patterns for 3D items.
I like the last pg. of birds in Martha's magazine.

I made the birds (last pic.) with the tiny glass beads...BEAUTIFUL results~
Happy wishes,

Love your cubbie birdie. Can't wait to see it finished! Laurie
I love your little bird! He's precious. The Martha magazine looks very inspiring... I think I feel a trip to Barnes & Noble coming on. And what a shame it would be to go look at the magazine and not get a Pumpkin Spice Latte while I'm there! Now my afternoon is planned! Have a great weekend!
I love your beautiful, creative, generous blog! You always have terrific ideas that spark my imagination. But where do you get the energy? I am tired after just reading what you do everyday!:~}
Reading about your wanting to make the "little lamb" I remembered I had saved a similar one a few months ago, that I found wandering cyberspace. You can find it (free pattern)here:

Dawn~ Love your little bird. And soon she's going to be so dressed up! Your grand certainly needs the lamb! What fun to start preparing for the arrival with things made by your gifted hands.
So nice to hear from you each morning. Can't wait to see your littl bird all dressed up. Thanks for the preview of Martha's new book. Have a wonderful weekend.
Smiles,
Pat
Your little chubby bird looks so cute *naked* but I bet she will be a knock out when she gets embellished! I'll have to check out the stores for the MS mag. TFS!
Dawn~ Glad to see you are doing your normal sweet things! No mean people are allowed to trespass on your blog! ~Mandy
Hi Dawn,
I love your sweet little fat bird ~ bits of lace will make it even more special!
I bought that Martha magazine last week. You're right ~ it has some wonderful ideas in it! I love those little photo charms you've shown.
I think my favorite idea is the little snowball gift box. I'm definitely making a few of those!
Have a blessed day!
I love your little chubby bird! Reminded me I have a sweet little bird pattern somewhere around here... either a partridge or a dove.
The lamb in the Martha magazine is wonderful!
The next two weeks may seem very long while waiting to know if you have a little grandson or granddaughter, but what a blessing!

Elizabeth and I get this magazine every holiday season. Love it!

Oh! I saw this magazine on our Friday night date night at the bookstore. I didn't buy it though, because I had to admit to myself that I could only enjoy the eye candy and never make anything. My hands just don't work that well. That's why I love the digital world so much. Love that chubby birdie. So glad you like your little guy. Happy Sunday.
I may have to pick this up. I rarely buy Martha either. I like a couple things you've shown though...thanks.
