Not my style but still amazing ~

About six months ago this room was, let's see, how shall I put it....DISGUSTING! Believe it or not, this is our garage! Having been in the antique business for over 5 years I had accumulated tons of "projects" as I painted furniture and was always trying to turn something worthless into a treasure. Well this garage was busting at the seams. We had the big yard sale this past summer and Brad (the pumpkin eater artist), our middle son, totally redid this room all by himself!

He's returning to college after the Christmas holidays and needed to live at home with us to be able to do it all. Well, since you've all seen the spare room (that would be my lovely art room that is also busting at the seams), this was the only alternative. It's not been transformed permanently but sealed, the garage door hardware on the ceiling removed and peel and stick tile from Lowes is on the floor. It has the look of slate. See the wall of fabric? It's about five sheets hung on a tight cable ~ no sewing at all and they hide the garage door! He's about to buy a couple of small heaters but amazingly it stays quite nice out there. I think it must be insulated.

I'm sorry these photos are dark but I wanted you to see the beautiful lighting. Brad is so talented. I have to say though, I am SO drooling over this space.....can't you just see it as a STUDIO?! Sorry Brad, I love you son, but this is an amazing space now ~

PS. He wants to major in Design!

I spent the day Tuesday finishing up the article and going through two years of photographs to go with it. OMGoodness....my eyes are tired! I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday dear friends ~
xxoo, Dawn

That's a gorgeous transformation of a garage! I did the same thing when I was 19 with my Mom's garage, though it was a little more 1970's Country style. She got the family room she had wanted after I moved out. I got fairly inexpensive rent by doing a lot of the work.

And yes, it will make an amazing studio one day!

Hi Dawn! Oooo.. I can see talent rund in the family! you should upload it to hgtv's Rate My Space! oooo..ooo.. or Better Homes and Gardens has an 'I Did It Myself' piece. Lovely!
I have a Nikon D40 now for a camera. My hubby gave it to me the other day, since he knows how much I love taking pics for my blog/life. It is so much fun to use!! I have wanted to do micro shots for years, but hadn't had the ability.
Know, I have to teach myself how to use it! :)

I love Brad's space!!! It is so cool how he has it divided up! Our basement is one big open room and Chase (away at college now) has his bedroom down there. It looks like a downtown loft in our basement! I love to go and relax down there!

Absolutely amazing! If Brad isn't studying design in college, he should reconsider! What a nice look for a college guy! Thanks for sharing the photos.

If that is the garage I can only imagine the rest of the house. And your creative genes do indeed run through this young man. Well, enjoy him while he is here (they fly the nest so quickly) & then when he is gone.... PRESTO bigger studio all ready for you! Have a wonderful day my friend

I think the apple does not fall far from the tree! Why does he need to major in design? He has already mastered it! Great space! I'd be sneaking out there to lounge when he was in class! This is a five star space!

I used to live in a garage at the beach in L.A. - but wow, I was not nearly as talented as your son. I'm not really convinced that he even needs to go to school. Seriously.

And, for your sake, I hope you get to inherit the space really soon!

What a wonderful job he did! I can see why he'd be a natural studying design. Guess it's in the genes.
