Organization and knowing where your stuff is = Creativity!

The other day I had a very special phone call. Jenny Doh called me. Yes. I know you can't believe it, neither can I!!! Jenny Doh is the editor of Somerset magazines ~ I'm not quite sure of all her titles but she knows them. What a sweetie!! So very down to earth and kind. I'm thinking that you are a mighty busy woman to be talking to little ol' me!!

They are coming out with MORE amazing magazines this next year and we talked about my work and me submitting artwork for these new publications. They are going to be wonderful ~ anyway one is going to be a take-off from the Where Women Create book and she asked me about my "studio."

Well, I piped up quickly and said "NO" mine is not worthy, nope, not at all. As a matter of fact, can you say SCARY?? And have you ever heard the saying 10 lbs crammed in a 5 lb bag? That is the story of my artroom.
I hunt, I gather, I cram.

So I've been trying oh-so-hard to organize, straighten and group so I can create more efficiently. No, I'm not doing this to be published but just so I can CREATE!! Below is one area I worked on today. Notice the new paper organizer? But you must also notice that I haven't featured any other areas of the room. Believe me, you don't want to see!!! But maybe in a few more days . . . it's not pretty but so much better!

Look at the before at your own risk :)

I told you it wasn't pretty but as long as what comes out of here is, that's all that matters!!!

I've decided to put my altered French clock on Etsy ~ hopefully someone will love it as much as I do!

Happy Friday sweet blog friends!!

xxoo, Dawn

(Giggle) I didn't see what was wrong with the FIRST picture, Dawn!
Isn't that how artist's studios are SUPPOSE to look? I know mine does ;-). And you even have more work surface than I do..my stuff just crowds in--I think it all multiplies while I'm asleep!!
Good job on organizing--you've inspired me to give it a try!! :-)
Blessings,
Myrna

Hi Dawn. Your space looks like mine. I clean it up promising myself I will keep it organized this time , then after one project looks like a war zone again. I try, I really do but I just can't keep it looking pretty.
WOW !!! Somerset magazine called you !!! Congratulations. It was only a matter of time before they would look at your blog and see the beautiful treasures you create.
Your little fairy slipper is soooo precious looking sitting on the rose. I love that photo.
Happy Mother's Day.

Of course it's not perfect, but then have you ever met an artist who could work and create in a sterile studio - that's not the ways it goes! Just keep showing us all the beauty you dream up - we don't care if things aren't perfect in the wings!!

Oh yes, Jenny called the right person - Dawn you should be featured in every Somerset pub., your work is always fabulous. So, more books - wow, if only they could lower the prices though, I love them all but they are costly! Of course the reproduction and paper are high quality and I know this increases price - and let's face it, viewing beautiful works of art, such as yours, need to be printed properly or there's no point.

Love Enya's music - please keep it on your blog. Stop by to see me on the front porch - it's ready for Spring afternoon tea!

Enjoy the weekend Dawn - hope you were spared damage from the storms last night - so far we've had just rain and a loud thunderstorm in the night - the garden looks so fresh and brilliant green this morning.
Hugs - Mary.

Dawn,
How awesome... Congrats! You so deserve it. Hang in there, I have finally completed the studio cleaning. I didn't know if it was possible, but I hung in there and now I get to reap the rewards. Your work is amazing and so deserves to be published.

I love your room! And, since I have cleaned, organized and gotten my desk made, it is soo mcuh easier to create. I have promised myself that I will at least clean up between projects - something that sounds easy for most, but for me with ADD - especially where projects are concerned, I usually have 2 or 3 projects going at one time!
It looks great and I can't wait to see what comes out of that room and of course your head and heart!

HI DAWN... If I clean it up I won't know where anything is...at this period of time. I would so love to have a cute little building outside that is only for me... The walls plasterd with loved objects for inspiration and a perfect little spot for sitting and taking a break with a hugh ice tea... I get a blank look when I mention it. I think the odds of me passing away are greater than having the little studio building but I can dream anyway. That still doesn't cost money YET>>>>

Hey Dawn!
I personally really love the eye-candy of BUNCHES of STUFF on a table like your before picture, but for practicality sake, organization really does help promote sanity at least..and creativity too. It's a hard balance sometimes, but I think you've done a great job at hitting that balance...you still have goodies all around to inspire, but you've got room to work and think - nicely done - can't wait to see the rest! (and isn't it wonderful to have the instant gratification of using the thrifty paper-organizer find...looks great!) Congrats on the contact from Somerset!! Yeah!! I hope it materializes into something fabulous for you!!

And I gotta tell ya, that altered clock is one of the most beautiful, clever, sweet altered pieces I've ever seen! Lovely...I hope it goes to a good, deserving home :o)

Hugs and Blessings!

I'm just OCD enough that I like organized chaos, as I call it. So the paper organizer set-up would be my ticket :) Continue, your creativity will show through any organization! I love looking at the artists that Home Companion showcases and they have busy rooms, but they're so beautifully organized. In a nonorganized sort of way :)

Dawn, so glad to learn that I am not alone with the struggle of being creative while trying to remain organized at the same time. That is wonderful that you were contacted by my favorite magazine. I can well imagine why they are interested in featuring you. I love the clock and I adore those fairy slippers on the post from May 8th. You are so creative. Have a lovely Mother's Day.

Your clock is divine! I can certainly relate to organization. I just posted photos and text about my recent, long, frustrating overhaul on my little studio. What a charming and inviting blog you have.

When I first looked at your pictures (before reading) I thought "What happened to all her treasures?" and then I read and found out!...whenever Itry to clean up it takes me so long to find anything when I need it...Organization is a skill that I am lacking. I love knowing you thru your blog and surely think you deserve all kinds of acknowledgements-you are a very talented artist and writer!
