A look back ~

You know how I love old images, illustrations and photos, right?
Well, I just recently discovered the Library of Congress website....
chock FULL of beautiful old photographs and other goodies ~
Here are a few that I fell in love with:

I've edited and cropped these to my liking ~ maybe to use in artwork?
You could too! These are all so, so very old.

I've been drawn to the precious children that worked in the fields,
as young as 3 and 4 years old!

So many of these sweet children don't even have shoes.

Life was so hard back then. We have it so good these days and don't even realize it.

Don't you love these amazing photos?
I just had to share them with you ~

Wishing you a wonderful Monday dear friends!
hugs and love,
Dawn

Dawn,
What a find. Nice you know how to crop, and share and all that. Thank you

LOVE the two children on the steps, and the lady with the bird is very interesting and unusual.

Sweetheart Dawn, the photoes are beautiful-
and they breaks my heart --seeing those small kids expected to work hard in the fields ,every day.I can`t help think, that there are still kids in the world, having to do the same, for the living. We are so lucky to live where we do, -just imagine Clara and Mathilde in that situation!!Dearest Dawn-thankyou for your beautiful comment-it was such a sad day, yesterday.
Love to you, and hugs, from
Dorthe

Very disturbing images here - I hold the same sentiments as Dorthe but love the last one as it reminds me of me handling our beloved chook friends.

Such a valuable resource of old photos. Most of the children look happy for all the hard work. Odd to think of this country and others being built on the backs of children.

On the other hand, those children probably did not grow up to be self-absorbed adults who didn't know how to work. Almost every child I've ever known enjoys some work. This from the gal whose five-year-old grandson spent Saturday afternoon helping his grandfather stack wood and loved it. ☺

Thanks for sharing your sources!

One can get lost at the L.of C., soooo many images to see. I have spend alot of time on museum sites. These children seem happy enough, work and fresh air is better...all the technology we have makes me wonder how good it is. Parents need to keep it in balance I guess.
I like the last one with the chicken.

Just found your lovely blog. Your mixed media art is fantastic. I too find these vintage photos wonderful. Thank you for the tip about the library of congress. When I look at vintage photos like these I realize how easy life is for me and my family. We live and sleep in a warm home, my children get to go to school and play (not work to support their family) and we have so much food we have to worry about getting fat. We have a wonderful life - thanks to the hard work of those from the past.

I went back to see all your wonderful pictures and oh how Clara has grown. I love the pictures that you just put on, it reminds me of my childhood. I hope you won't mind if I use them sometime soon. I have missed everyone, and Dear Dawn, you are at the top of my list. I hope that I can leave a comment, for some reason I am having a hard time with some of my posting of comments. Big Hugs, mary

Those are just wonderful...... I have not been up long this morning and sitting on the side of the bed I was remembering the dream from the night before. I was walking through grandma's house. A very old little house with rotted floors and in need of a roof. There has been a storm that night and there were trees down and they came through the walls of the kitchen bedroom and living room. While walking through with the insurance man we ended up on the porch where sat her beautiful pie safe that has been untouched by the damage. I thought to myself that I would take that home.....

Just sitting thinking about that dream and that pie safe brought back memories of a better time.... These pictures could have hung on that wall in that beautiful little house.......
