I loved it!!

Emily talked me into watching a movie with her last night ~ she said, "don't worry, you're gonna love it!" So guess what.......I DID! Can you believe I'd not seen Chocolat??? No I hadn't and I really enjoyed it ~ I loved the basis of the story and also the way it was filmed and the beautiful accents....
it really was wonderful!!

Another glimpse at an angel resting on my chest......

A little snippet of news that I just HAVE to share with you......
Jo Packham contacted me to come a shoot my studio
for Where Women Create in a few months!!!!!!!
HOW AMAZING IS THAT????
Now.....what else do I need to do to this house
to get it ready for a camera crew????!!!!

Have an amazing Friday precious friends!!!!

The best of intentions ~

I really have had the best of intentions....to get into my studio and create. It's so clean and ready for me! I've even started working on my sweet tiny doll dress project but with school starting Monday, yes, that's what I said, and with all the other things going on around here, it seems as my creative energy is being drained by the rest of the day.

Noah had his open house last night, I ended up giving him a short little haircut yesterday for that too ~ plus Chase heads of to college in a few weeks and we're getting everything together for that as well.

Below in the photo, can you see how I trim my paper for all the areas that I'm going to use the gel medium to adhere it? That way I don't waste time....it's all ready to go. I still want to age the little floral print paper as it's too white and crispy for me :)

Clara dozed off for a nap and I had to get a photo of her ~
she's so precious!!!
And look at her toys!!! She's grabbing them, chewing on them
and growing so very fast ~

Thank you always for stopping by to see me ~
I hope that things will settle down here a little come Monday.....
so I can get back in the groove!!!

Wishing you an amazing Thursday dear friends ~

Nuturing creativity ~

A sweet image for you with wonderful text as well:

My dear friend Dawn let her daughter Sarah come over for an evening of creating last night! Sarah had an accordian book that she wanted to embellish
so I pulled out a few things for her to play with and she just took off!!!

I loved seeing how she was so sure of herself ~
her paper choices, buttons and images.
Her book turned out so beautiful ~ I took a few photos to share with you.....

As an artist it's important to look through your stash, try different things,
and then be confident in the decision that you finally ended up with.
Don't stress over your decision, as it's not a life or death thing.....
we all learn from mistakes in our art journey ~
what matters is that you play, experiment and try.....
to create something beautiful!

Wishing you a wonderful, creative Wednesday sweet friends!!
hugs and love,
Dawn

Forever friends ~

A wonderful friend of mine, Becky and her sweet daughter Laura stopped by for a visit Monday. Becky and I've been friends since I was about thirteen years old!! There have been times in our lives that we've not talked much, not because we were angry at each another but because our lives were just so busy with our families and we lived far from one another as well.

But we're the kind of friends that as soon as we start talking to one another, we pick up right where we left off. Don't you love friendships that are like that? No worry of someone getting miffed if the other didn't call....just knowing that they are there and that you are there....
it's what true friendship is I believe ~

Becky's daughter, Laura, is a Stampin' Up consultant and knows that I love the catalogs and the supplies they sell, so she brought a few goodies for me and one was a new catalog!! I took a few photos of some of my favorite things inside to share with you ~

Don't you love this chubby bird and beautiful quote?

Love anything to do with clocks ~

What is it about twill tape? It looks wonderful when used with the vintage items I love ~
and you can stamp on it too!

Beautiful script backgrounds ~

What about this neat "sanded" look stamp?

I promise I don't work for Stampin' Up but I do love to share things with you that I find!!
Now...I need to place an order, don't I? :)

Wishing you a wonderful Tuesday sweet friends ~

Such a wonderful time!!!

As hard as I worked for Friday's "Where Bloggers Create", it was SO worth it!!! Thank you so much sweet Karen for doing this ~ your blogging event motivated me to complete so many projects that I've been wanting to do!!!! I'm STILL visiting everyone's creative spaces on Karen's blog too.....I just love seeing them all because no matter how large or small, the most wonderful thing is what happens in that space....creating something wonderful!!!

Remember the beautiful eggs in my studio? I found them at Marshall's over a year ago right around Easter ~ they came in a clear acrylic box and a sweet friend I was with insisted on buying them for me!!!! They do look wonderful in the jar, don't they?

I never tire of adding gorgeous things to my studio.....
I found these pointe ballet slippers in Maggie's blog shoppe
The Veranda, don't you just love them????

And sweet Maggie sent a few extra goodies in the package as well ~
thank you so much Maggie, I just love it all!!!

Wishing you all an amazing Monday dear friends!!

A few more peeks ~

I took so many photos of the studio after I finally cleaned it up....
here are a few more peeks ~

I put my playlist at the bottom of the blog if you'd like to know what songs are on it ~
you have to press the start button for it to play now.
Please let me know if it still keeps the blog from loading ~ I love having it on here too but hate that it keeps the blog from loading properly ~ thank you so much!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend sweet friends!!!

It's here!!!! Where Bloggers Create day!!

I'm so very glad that Karen of My Desert Cottage decided to do this!!
It really motivated me to organize and get a few things accomplished
that I've had in my head for awhile....

Just a little background if you've not been to my blog before, this room was formerly the garage of our house! One of our older sons lived with us for awhile and converted it into a room! It still has the garage door if it should need to be transformed back ~ which I'm hoping isn't in the near future because I've worked so hard turning it into my creative space!!

This wall is on your right as you step down into the studio ~

This is still on your right, my little sewing area ~

Don't you think this is a good place for the ironing board?
Right in front of the air conditioner!

An inspiration board filled with wonderful old things ~

My desk where I create!

One of the projects I was working on ~
a framed, cloth-covered board with beautiful ephemera pinned on....

I just couldn't cut this matelasse curtain panel so I draped it on the chair very carefully and placed a few little stitches here and there to form a slipcover for my office chair. The stitches are concealed by beautiful vintage buttons.

My comfy chair ~

The table in the center of the room is perfect for working on projects where I need a little more space ~

Just a little bit of fabric ~

And here we are back at the door going into the house!

I love being in this room ~ it truly soothes my soul. I'm surrounded by things I love and beautiful artwork so generously given to me by my precious friends.

I hope that you enjoyed the tour....
don't you want to come over and make something together?! :)

Please be sure to check Karen's blog, My Desert Cottage,
for a list of all the bloggers that are participating ~

Thank you always for stopping by to see me sweet friends,
wishing you a wonderful Friday ~

Bird prints to share ~

When I'm out looking for treasures....I've always look for something beautiful that I can scan and share with you. I found these bird prints at a wonderful antique store that I used to sell my wares in ~ Antique Griffin.....I still love going and digging for things to create with ~

I also found this GORGEOUS pastoral print....it's tattered and so very old ~ I'm not sure where to hang it yet but it was on sale and had to come home with me! I'm sorry for all the reflections ~

A tiny little drawer perfect for an assemblage ~

And lace ~ gorgeous ecru lace....

My sweet friend Dawn bought these two gathering baskets for me, I think they will be beautiful used as a backdrop for an assemblage as well!

I've been sprucing and straightening and am about ready to take a few photos of the studio. Here's a glimpse at something after I had just started (I'm now finished with it).....
an ever-changing framed gathering of beautiful things ~ I used my new clips (Thank you Kathy!) and those cool pins from Michael's ~

I hope that you have a wonderful Thursday dear friends,
hugs and love,

One person's trash is definitely another's treasure ~

I see beauty in the strangest things now. Why do I love old, broken pocket watches.....with stained faces no less ~

Vintage paper items, old photos, ads, envelopes and even index cards have such charm ~

Gorgeous sepia mounting corners ~ maybe not the man photo so much ~ but I love the corners and I'll use the photo as a foundation for another image :)

And a tattered mini photo album ~ just waiting to become something wonderful . . .

Each of these old, used items can be transformed into something wonderful ~
possibly even a treasure!

I'm so excited!!! I've been working so hard in the studio ~
it's looking better than it ever has.....
and I can't wait to show you ~

I hope you have an amazing Wednesday sweet friends,

An amazing artist....

William-Adolphe Bouguereau (November 30, 1825 – August 19, 1905) was a French academic painter. Bouguereau was a staunch traditionalist whose realistic genre paintings and mythological themes were modern interpretations of Classical subjects with a heavy emphasis on the female human body.

Don't you find his work just wonderful??

I've blogged about Bouguereau before
but had to share his wonderful work again ~

I've been working so hard in my studio....cleaning, organizing and changing a few things ~ Friday is the "Where Blogger's Create" day so I have to be ready!!

Thank you all so much for the feedback about my blog loading.....
I just want it to be simple to visit :)

I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday sweet friends!

A bit of a quandary ~

I just love my music playlist. I've tried to choose relaxing, calming music because that's the tone that I love having on my blog ~ but a reader from Germany sent me an email that now my blog locks up her screen BECAUSE of the playlist. Plus, she's not the only one ~ other readers in a forum mentioned they had the same problem. So.....for the time being, I'm going to remove it to see if they have an easier time stopping by to see me.

A great alternative? Pandora.com is a wonderful website where you can "create" you own "stations" It's free and say you love Enya ~ you can create an Enya station and they will find music from Enya plus other artists that have a similar sound and feel. I also have a Thomas Newman station because I love the soothing instrumental sound of his music.

So just open another tab, go to Pandora.com and play the music you love while checking out your favorite blogs. I'll keep you posted if removing my playlist helped!

Do you have any trouble with my blog loading?
I've tried to cut back on links in the sidebar and
also cut down on the number of posts that display on the front page.....
Thank you so much for always stopping by to see me ~
xxoo, Dawn

Thoughts and fairies ~

Life is too short to wake up with regrets
so love the people who treat you right.

Forget about the one's who don't.
Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.
If it changes your life, let it.
Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

Why do I love fairies? I can't really tell you except that I guess I'm a little girl at heart and they seem so innocent and wonderful to me ~ the images of them are beautiful.......

I've been cleaning at home and working a bit in my studio to get it ready for some fresh photos!! I'm participating in Where Bloggers Create later in the week and want to have some sweet pics of my space to share with you ~

I hope you have an amazing Monday sweet friends!!
hugs and love,

A must-have!!!

You all know how much I love blogging, right?
Well, my sweet friend Marcy of Queen Marcy Originals mailed me a copy of Blogging for Bliss as a gift and it just arrived Saturday.... and I LOVE it!!!
Thank you so much Marcy, you were right ~ it's definitely a keeper!!

Tara Frey's new book Blogging for Bliss is so chock full of wonderful information. Are you a new blogger? Then this is a great reference book for you ~ with tips, tricks, how-tos and so many wonderful bloggers are featured inside. They each talk about their spin on blogging too! I've been blogging now for almost three years and I'm still learning. It's just so neat to read about all the different blogs and Tara ties it all together with great information that we all need as we journey down this blog road.

And the price? AMAZING!!! Here's the Amazon link to order it ~ you will love it!!!

Thank you all so very much for your sweet thoughts and prayers for my dad....this is very treatable and our hopes and prayers are for him to be on the road to recovery very quickly!!

Thoughts on life and love ~

I was reading sweet Jen's blog a day or so ago and read some heartbreaking news.....a blog friend of hers had passed away unexpectedly....I had never read her blog before but clicked the link ~

A sweet woman....Stacey Wolfley of The Thrifty Chick passed away suddenly from a stroke at the young age of 31 years old leaving four precious children behind ~ 8, 3, and 2 years old and a two week old baby....and a wonderful husband that I know is absolutely crushed that his precious wife is gone.

Do we really realize how fleeting our lives are??? And how very important our relationships with our loved ones are.....I'm so sorry for the sad post but it's times like these that make us stop, gather ourselves and realize the most important priorities in our lives.....

My mom called today and told me that my dad has prostate cancer.....she was completely calm and said they were going to use cryotherapy for him and the outlook is really good. He's recently had colon cancer and that alone was a scare in itself. He had a section of his colon removed and that turned out to be a great solution. My sweet prayer warriors, if you'll please mention him in your prayers I would be so appreciative....he says as long as he honors the Lord he's fine.....

But still....a daughter that loves her daddy still worries....

hugs and love sweet friends,
Dawn

Sweet keepsakes ~ Precious friends

My dear friend Vikki from Humble Heart sent me a wonderful package and I just have to share it's beauty with you ~ beautiful old photo album pages (why do I love creating with these? they are just wonderful though!) she knows me well, wouldn't you say? Old book pages, amazing old keys and hardware, beautiful vintage images and my most favorite gift of all??? A handmade journal the Vikki made herself!!!! It is THE MOST precious thing......

Vikki created the book cover from vintage linens ~ just look at the bird on the cover.....

Each touch, every little thing, is like a hug from her ~

Vikki, I will treasure this always and tuck little photos of our sweet granddaughter inside ~ thank you my precious friend!!!

Look what I purchased from Karla at Karla's Cottage.....
these earrings are just what I love to use in my artwork!!

One more blessing.....I won a giveaway on Denise's blog A Day In My Life, a wonderful felted purse handmade by Denise herself!!!! It's so beautiful ~ thank you so very much!!!!

I've not been very creative this week....I tend to be upset about that. But there's always tomorrow, right? Sometimes other things in our lives take precedence over the studio and that's OK ~ we are so many things to so many, wives, mothers, sisters, friends, grandmothers.....cooks, cleaning ladies.....and the list goes on and on ~ but still, to be a woman....is a wonderful thing.

Wishing you a wonderful Friday dear friends,
love and hugs,

Thank you all so much!!

Because of YOU....
I won the beautiful French burlap king pillow slips
from Michelle at Petit Coterie!!!!
Thank you for commenting on my behalf ~ you are such angels...
and believe me, they are BEAUTIFUL!
I love the texture and the graphics ~ Thank you so very much Michelle....
they're absolutely wonderful!

We don't have a king-sized bed, just a queen, but knew that I could use them in a different way to enjoy their beauty....at first I thought I might use them as valances but I ended up deciding on chair slips for two ladderback chairs in my studio. I'm just going to stitch them loosely by hand so if I ever do want to use them on pillows I can! They're just pinned together now ~

And I have to share with you a sweet little doll dress I found ~
look at the tiny blue handstitching....

I even love the crumpledness (is this a word?) of it ~ precious......

This sweet angel dozed off after playing so hard in her little jumper ~ hugging her glow worm....

Cindy at The Plum Tree has another contest going on this week!!! The prizes are featured in the photo above ~ such beautiful goodies! Just click HERE to read all about it....

A peek inside a favorite ~

Do you have this book Vintage Treasures? It's one of the books I chose to take with me last week and I forgot how beautiful and inspiring it is!!

Just the cover alone makes my heart skip a beat ~

The ideas throughout are simple, elegant and so beautiful ~

This is what my lavender sachets need to look like!! I'm going to try this.....

Apply vintage lace to lampshades to enjoy its beauty ~

Simple vintage pins and satin ribbon adorn gifts ~

You would love this book!

I added a little snippet of lace that was a gift to the knob of my cabinet ~

Placed a vintage crocheted bootie inside my stained and crazed creamer ~
the other bootie is on my advent calendar I created for Somerset...
it signifies when our first son was born December 20th.

And I added a tiny bundle of hair pins still wrapped up ~
why do I like them? I don't know....
I just do ~

I just love new bloggers. I feel like they are sweet little chicks that we should wrap our wings around, don't you agree?
I've recently found Amanda and her blog I should be grading papers....
how wonderful is that name?

I would love for you to stop by and show her the blog love
when you get a minute ~

I hope you have an amazing Tuesday dear friends!

hugs and love,

What inspires you?

When we left for our trip last week, I packed a bag FULL of books and magazines ~ it was so heavy I could hardly carry it!! Now, I'm not talking fiction or novels, but books chock full of ideas and inspiration.

Just looking at magazines and books can get your mind going. One idea will lead to a new thought, and you may think of something you already have and that you could use to make that idea come to fruition.

Somerset Life is so full of imagination ~ you can see someone's creation and then make it your own by using what you have around you and incorporating your style and taste.

A little set of pens I found at Hobby Lobby.... love them!

The beginnings of fairy shoes.....I molded the shape first out of thin aluminum foil and then covered them with the paperclay ~ they seem a little bulky, kind of like wooden shoes, but we'll see how they turn out! I want to cover them with velvet petals cut really tiny....

Some more goodies from Hobby Lobby. The beads are going to be eyes in a paper clay doll ~

And you know something else that inspires me?
Precious friends who take the time to send you paint swatches that you fall in love with on their blog!!!!

Isabel of Maison Douce painted several things with this shade that she mixed herself!
I commented that I'd love to know the formula and she mailed me swatches so I can get it color matched at the store ~
Thank you so much Isabel, you are an angel!!

Simmering ideas inspire me as well.....this little doll dress has been resting inside the back of this canvas for awhile now. I've been wanting to work on the back of a canvas and I think it will make a beautiful showcase for this precious dress.

I'm not even going to iron the creases out ~ don't you love the way it looks just as it is?

Thank you again if you purchased one of my tutorials last week!!! I had an amazing response and appreciate it so much! I still have two customers that haven't let me know which tutorial they want and I've tried to contact them but with no response. If you're reading this, and didn't receive your tutorial, just email me at: sewmanyroses@yahoo.com to let me know :)

Wishing you a wonderful Monday sweet friends!!!

Something wonderful ~

I talked about Clearly Fun Soap a good bit here on my blog, with my sweet friend Dawn owning the business and now with my husband and son also working there, it's truly is close to my heart!

I've shown you these beautiful soap designs.....

And these adorable goldfish in a bag soaps that children just love!

Well, this week at the Atlanta Merchandise Mart....
Clearly Fun Soap is debuting their amazing new line available for wholesale!!!!!

There are three different fragrances and styles:

Fifi's French soap
(dedicated to none other than Fifi O'Niell of Chez Fifi)

Spa by The Sea shell soap

AND

The Feathered Nest egg soap!!!

I have been wanting egg shaped soap FOREVER!! And now it will be on the market for much less than previously seen in stores,
and it has The Feathered Nest name! How wonderful is THAT???

The line features bath gel, lotion, room spray, shaped soaps and scrub. Each line has it's own amazing fragrance that suits it so well ~
The shaped soaps are being produced right now
and I can't wait to get my hands on them.....
I want to sell them in my little shoppe too!

We head out this Wednesday morning ~ DH, myself, Chase and Noah....who by the way is walking so well,
with barely a limp and even running!!!
Thank you so much for your sweet prayers for him.

Brent, Emily and baby Clara are going to hold down the fort for us.
I hope to have WiFi there because I'm just sorry, in the evenings...
blogging is my relaxation!! So we're taking the laptop to see ~

Staying busy!

I hope you had a wonderful fourth of July weekend dear friends ~
I was finishing up some projects for publishing and of course need to get them in the mail the first of this week. We are heading to Florida the middle of the week and spending a couple of days at Panama City Beach! So, I'm trying to take care of a few things before we leave.

I have to share something so neat with you. A few weekends ago, our oldest son Brent rebuilt his grandparent's deck for them. Well, when the job was finished and they were cleaning up, look what he saved for me!! All the wonderful, aged finials from the posts! I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them but he knew I could use them for something ~

A few glimpses of what I've been working on ~

Nurture your creative soul
(photo: my precious grandmother who did just that)

The earth laughs in flowers

I love old stuff ~

I found a home for my new black umbrella....my new black 4.00 umbrella......it may not stay here but I kind of like it!

I stopped by The Plum Tree and found a few treasures I just couldn't leave without ~ a drawer perfect for an assemblage, a wonderful old ledger book and a sweet little doll dress. I also had to get the newest issue of Romantic Homes ~ and a couple of candles.
I love The Plum Tree....and I love old stuff!

I'm in love with . . . Life!

Not just my life but THIS Life!!! It's not a magazine. I can't call it that anymore. This publication is totally a KEEPER!! I found it at our Books-A-Million ~ the last one...and it just came out, what, yesterday?? I'm just glad they had it so I didn't have to cry big ol' crocodile tears ~

Just to give you a glimpse of what's inside this issue ~

Gorgeous inspiration.....

I ran by the antique mall that is near the book store and found a few little goodies. A black umbrella....4.00!

By the way, do you see my lovely photo shooting backdrop?? A matelasse sham pinned to a piece of foamcore! I love the texture though ~

I bought the glove box because I want to try an idea I had about them ~
Lee, I'll try it first to see if it looks dumb :)

Gorgeous Anna Griffin Thank You cards on clearance at Michael's, why? I don't know. I think they look timeless!

Back to the antique mall finds, an old monogram pattern for 1.00! I love the crown and the "s"

I bought these wonderful old photos for the both of us....scroll down just a little and you can save your copy to your computer!

And this thing? I don't know what it is, but I thought it could hold some sprigs of something on an assemblage ~

Don't they look like wonderful friends? Click to enlarge and right click to save!

And this little guy is so precious!! for you as well ~

Wishing you a wonderful Friday dear friends!!

For the love of dropcloths ~

You know I love them. Canvas dropcloths are absolutely wonderful!!!

I saw on Kari and Kijsa's blog where they created curtains with them too!!
Just click HERE to visit their blog to see more pics.......

I posted about my new dropcloth curtains HERE back last October and I STILL love them so ~
