The shades of old.....Inspiration Friday ~

I have so, so many things that inspire me...
It's REALLY easy for me to participate in Inspiration Friday
hosted by Debra of Common Ground!

As much as I love the pure white and cream decorating,
it's not very realistic for me :)
I do love having my cream guest room though!!!

My colors have always been the shades of old.
What are those, you ask?
Basically the colors of dirt.
No, really....the sepias, the sages...the antiqued rose....
THOSE are my colors.
With five sons you can certainly understand why!

Carol Hicks Bolton....the designer and past owner of Homestead in Texas
has always, ALWAYS inspired me as I love her style,
her colors and her way
of loving all things old.

I appreciate so many different styles of decorating...
but THESE photos and Carol Hicks Bolton's style of decorating,
TOTALLY inspire me!!

Have a beautiful Friday precious friends ~
hugs and love,
Dawn

Grrrrr!!!!!

You and Lisa are KILLING me with these posts showing off your magazine articles on the Hicks-Bolton ladies. I would kill to find any of those old mags.

But I absolutely love that you love these gals and their style as much as I do! :-)

Dawn, you certainly know how to get my attention. I really love them...all of them. Every article ever written about them.
I am lovin' the progress you are making on the farmhouse. I read the post about your stuff...and I would love to come help you pack. I would have two boxes going though...one for you and one for me!!! I wonder which boxes would have the most in them???
hugs and love to you sweet one.

these pages really speak to me...they are perfection. I love cream and white too but with a house of boys like you it wouldn't go over so well!

Dawn,
I knew that June & Anne would beat me on this comment sheet! We need to start a fan blog on the Bolton-Hicks legacy. Those pictures are truly timeless & they affect me as powerfully this time as they do anytime I see them. The last photo, with the desk....Victoria??? I don't have that one. Never saw it, thanks for showing me! What issue is that? Note to Jo Packham...PLEASE publish a book on these ladies!!!!!! Lisa

Thanks for the inspiration Dawn! I love the Bolton-Hicks women. I agree with Tarnished & Tattered, Jo Packham should do a book on their unique style. Have a good weekend.

Oh my Dawn... All this inspiration and in my color hues... Lovely... lovely... lovely... I was thinking about you back of stove hide and thought a valance of grain sacks would be a great fix for both side... It could only have to be about a foot in length.... Oh i do need to stop thinking so much at night and close my eyes and just go to sleep.... LOL

Like you...this is the woman from whom I draw all my inspiration. She is who I want to be when I grow up. When I saw the first article on her in MEHC with that vintage ice cream holder on the mantle...I was hooked. Thank goodness I still have all my MEHCs and Victoria magazines to remind me to follow my heart.
I'm with Lisa...a fan club needs to be started!
I know I'd be a charter member.

Me too, Dawn. Those neutrals just HUG a person! Colors are so personal. I don't know anyone who doesn't feel relaxed in a soothing low color environment.

Oh Dawn!

That's a LOT of yumminess! I always admire the monotone rooms. They always looks so peaceful, don't they?

I've always loved this layout, those are the colors I have gravitated to also, nature's colors...and they don't show the dirt! Great inspiration. I just love that raw plank wood, so rustic, but chic. yummy. Thanks for joining in Dawn, I'm ready for more house photos!!!
