Inspiration Friday...
curiosities..makeovers and a new tutorial!

I guess because I have so many things that do inspire me ~
It seems I'm constantly drawn to the Cabinet of Curiosities look in
decorating my home....what is this?

To me it is having wonderful old collections of things you love!
It could be a gathering of nature specimens or even
a gathering of beautiful old items that you group and display together....

The first few photos below are of
the Cabinet of Curiosities of Bonnier de la Mosson.
These displays are just GORGEOUS and so very inspiring to me ~

I hope this will inspire you just a little too...

Sooooo....do remember the "before"?

Here's a little peek at the after!
Well, it's not totally the finished AFTER....
as I have much to do in the decorating dept.
but I had to give you a little peek ~

And the dining room is in no way finished either...but I've been playing :)
Look at all that junk on the table!
I really have WAY too much stuff....

And the new tutorial is READY!!!
Precious little doll shoes....

Wishing you a great Friday and weekend dear friends!!
hugs and love,
Dawn

Sounds as if you're in the place where you won't have to do too much shopping to keep your shop up to speed. What a wonderful time to select each piece for your home thoughtfully. Everything is looking marvelous!

Dawn,

The room looks beautiful, very inviting and cozy. Did you paint the panneling with the Kilz paint or did you have to prime the wood first? I have two rooms that I would like to cover panneling in. Thanks for the inspiration too!

Dear Dawn, I love the little touches that make your home so special...St. Francis by the hearth, the beautiful rug, lovely little footstool and your doggie bed by the fire. Light that candle on the mantle and enjoy, you've made this house a home! Love, Penny

Dawn,
Those cabinets are just incredible. I think I could spend hours just looking around at your home creations. It really seems like it is "yours."

I LOVE your slippers. I am going to check out your tutorials. My only connection with burlap is the "old burlap" that made me sneeze like crazy!
Maybe it has improved.

The transformation in your house...UNVBELIEVABLE!!! You did a great job!

Hugs,
Suz

Hi there Dawn,

We have the same appetite for collections of natural specimans for sure. I was inspired to create this egg collection from an old muffin tin.

I love the little shoes here too BTW. Loved seeing your pin cushion shoes in Somerset recently.

Love all you do,

Mel

You have such beautiful things on your blog! I was an art teacher years ago (I too, have been married for 29 years) and creating things still is a passion of mine. You asked where the sandhill cranes were in my picture. They are in the field where we produce our green roof product...about 5 minutes from here. My mom was visitig once and we had cranes out the front door and turkeys in the back, she said it was better than a zoo!
I look forward to visiting here again! Have a good weekend!

Apologies for being absent for so long dear Dawn, this has been such a hectic Summer and I've been traveling so much - six countries since May!!! Now I'm home for a while and can you believe I've opened a booth with a friend at SuzAnna's Antiques! It's just for fun as I've nowhere left to decorate at home (actually I'm simplifying here!) so perhaps can make a little money selling to local treasure hunters!!

Love this post - see you too have been renovating - and those displays in the vintage cabinets are the most awesome and beautiful things I've seen in a long time!

Happy weekend Dawn.
Hugs - Mary

Dawn, so loving how everything is coming together!!! Romeo really likes the cat statue ;) on top of the dining room hutch top. I didn't dare tell him he/she was real. You understand why...can't you hear him now...well Aunt Dawn lets Thelma up on things.....

So happy you posted the tutorial on the doll shoes. Going to have to get that one - hard to resist such cuteness ;) And of course with my weakness for little shoes....well you know ;)

I hope all is well!!!
