I know that Thanksgiving isn't even here yet (but it IS next week!) but I'm already thinking of Christmas. I love the elegance and the simplicity of a white Christmas. Not really snow, as we don't really get much snow here in Georgia, but white as in the decorations. Mixed with silver, gold and crystal ~ white has such an elegance to me.
I have this gorgeous book by Tricia Foley, White Christmas, and what's amazing is that the copyright is 1997 but the elegance inside is absolutely timeless. White is classic and beautiful ~
I'm not just talking white either. Vanilla, creams and ecru are beautiful hues mixed in. It's soothing and relaxing, most of all, peaceful ~
I remembered that awhile back I bought some embossed wallpaper for a furniture project I was painting. This paper is so neat ~ you paste it on and then paint it too! Well, I had a kitchen cupboard that someone had wallpapered the panels of the doors and I just couldn't remove it. So I bought this and papered right over top and painted it all the same color. It turned out beautiful and sold really quickly too! The wallpaper has the look of old ceiling tiles to me, but on a much smaller scale.
How about I use this paper to wrap a few gifts this year? Accented by snippets of greenery and ribbon, I think it would look just beautiful ~ or even cones filled to the brim with candies...
I wonder how white feather boas from the craft store would look as garland?
White or cream hankies tucked inside cones hung on the tree ~
We'll see what our tree turns out looking like but I'm definitely dreaming white!

I can't get the little crocheted hat off my mind. The one for our new granddaughter? I know I purchased one but still want to make her one as well. I dug out all of my crochet supplies and discovered I had purchased some yellow cotton yarn just like the beautiful white that I just bought the other day to make her a hat!!!
Plus I found a project that I'd started a while ago ~ I thought I'd make a scarf out of this amazing chenille yarn but don't really know now :) I do love this yarn though!
I've even printed out a few free instructions to help me but yikes, what language is this??
Oh well, we'll see ~ maybe I should stick to my other artwork. I just have this thing in me that wants to learn new things!!
Wishing you a wonderful Tuesday sweet friends ~
xxoo, Dawn

You're right, the trees are gorgeous!
Sweet Dawn, thanks for your dear comment, and thankyou my husbond are feeling better, doing a lot of things-only the fantoms are still there.
What wonderfull pictures you shared to-day too-the tree so beautifull-the little nest in the branch, and the elegant stocking, and wow the big beautifull buttons in your collection.
I wish you the most happy day-with hugs and love from me.

The white is just scrumptious!
Dawn, are you left-handed? I have left-handers tell me that they find it too difficult to crochet so they stick to knitting. I would practice, though, on a simple granny square to learn a few stitches. I believe the best way to learn, though, is with a "buddy." I learned not through a book but by sitting by a campfire at my grandmother's northwoods lakeside cottage with both my grandmother and great aunt by my side, instructing. What a wonderful way to learn a craft!
Ooh, after you wrap your packages, would you take a picture for us? I just know they will be gorgeous! Love that paper! And, your ideas about white, ecru, etc....gonna be a lovely Christmas at your home.
Good morning Dawn... What a lovely post...
I Love, Love, Love White!! Even my grandson knows white is my favorite color! I love buttons as well, funny I just did a post last week on buttons. Can't wait to see your tree, I know it will be fabulous.

Wonderful post, Dawn. I can't wait to see your tree!
Love the white Christmas inspiration pics! :)
Dawn, your wallpaper is called "anaglypta" and has been used for quite awhile. My in-laws had a craftsman cottage built in the early part of the 20th century and their hall and bathroom were papered in this half-way up the walls. I always admired it. I'd love it on my ceilings but I can't figure out how they keep it UP there until the glue dries! It's wonderful for what you used it for! It's also great for hiding ugly paneling. I've never bought any but I have definitely considered it for covering some of the 70s paneling in this house. Instead, we did a texture paint like old stucco and I love it.
Your "white" pictures are beautiful!

Oh Dear Dawn.... the idea of a white Christmas just brings so many lucious pictures to mind, doesn't it? And, I love the yummy chenille yarn, a friend sent me some when my hubby was sick, and I made him a very special crocheted blanket out of turquoise yarn, it is now one of my "prized possessions". Can I ask where you found the baby hat patterns? I need one for my grandson... sorry for rambling! I just love "visiting" you each day!
I love it! I was just thinking the same thing about the white feather boas when I read your line about it, LOL!
Dawn, I was just looking at Tricia's book earlier. It's one of my favorites. Hope all is well, Theresa
You will create the perfect gift for your granddaughter. It could be a crocheted hat or something else entirely. I'm going to enjoy seeing all that you gather for her.
I've never had a White Christmas of the variety you describe. Perhaps it's all the white outside that makes me think color, color, color.
I love the White Christmas theme. Last year that was my theme, serving tea with that in mind and decorating my house with white. You have some great ideas, I wish had known them last year. I will have to look for Tricia Foley's book. Thanks!
This year my theme is Magic of Christmas; so it will be colorful.
I LOVE THE WHITE!!!! And how funny you wanted a yellow hat for "Baby Dear" because I just finished one for her in yellow with a daisy on top. :) Scary how like minds gooooooooooooooo
:o
Do you want to see a photo of it or be surprised when your box shows up? Have a beatiful day.
Can't wait to see the tree :) and aren't you just loving this wonderful role called 'grandmother'??!! Hint: it only gets better!!
I do love your blog! and I´ll be back!
Hugs from Annie in Sweden

I'll be going to the handcraft fair in Madison, GA on dec 13th.
i love that white tree...gorgeous...i am thinking of doing silver and pale pink with a touch of gold for my tree this year...i can send you some of my snow if you like...yep, it's snowing already here...
Dawn,
I am finding myself wanting to start my Christmas decor. My daughter and I even talked about it because I am not hosting for Thanksgiving this year so why not? Next week I may just plunge in!
If the crochet thing does not work out, check into the weaving hoops with pegs around the edges, you get the same crochet look and can make hats, scarves, sweaters, booties, and blankets!
I can feel your excitement for your little to make her appearance!
Definitely have someone show you how to crochet. My sis taught me in 5 minutes and I haven't stopped since. I have little vintage books I refer to when I want to learn new stitches.
I posted directions for a beanie using a single crochet stitch here -- http://nikkishell.typepad.com/wardroberefashion/2008/11/simple-crochet.html. Depending on the size hook and yarn you used it can be made (or modified) for a baby and is really simple. Email me if you want help!
