I found this illustration in neat old children's book and loved this little bird ~ my plan was to make a pattern out of him, maybe stitch him onto some fabric to have that redwork look . . . wouldn't he be adorable stitched on something for our little grandbaby?
A sweet old photo for you to use in your artwork ~ can you believe how young these sweethearts look?
I'm so excited, I ordered the soon-to-be-released-this-coming-Monday new version of Photoshop Elements!! I guess the next thing I should buy is one of those "dummies" how-to books . . . I used Photoshop several years back while working as a graphic designer but was much better at text and just started learning about photographs and color correcting. So we'll see what will come of this new software. If you know of a easy-to-understand book I should buy to help me learn it, I'd love to know what it is!!
I hope your Saturday is great one!

Grandbaby will look beautiful in a redwork birdie garment! I am sure you will breeze through the new photoshop and teach us a thing or two in the process! Have a sweet weekend!
The little bird is simply adorable and would be cute embroidered! I have Photoshop Elements 6 AND Photoshop Elements 6 for Dummies! My son recommended it highly for me but honestly I haven't looked at it. LOL
It certainly can be a challenge to have Photoshop without a book so I'm glad to see what Viv suggested above. There's so much that can be done! Course Ree always has some cool tips at The Pioneer Woman.
I can see that little bird embroidered on something for the coming babe. Very sweet.
Just stopping in to see what sweet little Dawn has been up to :) and as usual you are such an inspiration!! Love the "autumn" poem you found, I collect poems and quotes and that one was new and so dear, thank you! I'm still keeping an eye out for your "water babies", I just dream of finding for you and you'll love me forever, hehehe :)!!
Photoshop, oh my, you're in my prayers, that's all I can add...:)
Love all the lovely illustrations you shared and the tutorial for the journal is on my "to do list"~
Sending hugs to you~*~*~*~* have a beautiful weekend!!

Dawn, When you find a good How-To book on PhotoShop share it with me! I have been looking for one forever... I have PhotoShop and can only use the basics. I am always begging my college kids to teach me when they are home! LOL
I love Print Shop Deluxe and use it all the time!
Hi Dawn, thank you for the great photo.
The nature journal tutorial is quite wonderful, with clear photos and easy to understand instructions. I'm going to enjoy making one of those. Thank you so much for the prompt service!
Love these images Dawn! How exciting about getting the Photoshop Elements...I haven't used that...just regular old Photoshop ;) Can't wait to see what you do with it!
P.S. Sorry it's been so long since I have come visiting!
Dawn...I love your comments about sharing your ideas. Did you read the comment I left you about the sewing class I'm in and how the instructor acted? I have photoshop 6 and my husband has 7 and the "dummy book". I have a much easirer time with 6.0 I did see a book for 7 at Costco's last week with a lot of photo. I am visual so the photos help me. I did not buy it. I had to many things already in my cart. Your grandchild will surely be blessed with all the creative things that you will make. Blessings...Sherry
Dawn...oh how I love the little bird too!!! So Sweet.
Hi Dawn, I can just see that fat little bird in redwork, Do you know yet what the grandbaby is, a boy or girl?
On your post below, this is so true, when I did Canton, everyone was worried about who copied who and if they only knew, there is enough for everyone. I told people the patterns and where I got them and you could just see their mouth dropping and then the thank you's made it worth it.
Hope your weekend will be great,
Bonnie
Congratulations! I've used Photoshop since version 4 came out and it's the only software that I religiously update. Adobe's website actually has quite a few nice tutorials. Here are the ones for PS Elements.

Dawn, I'm just catching up on reading my favorite blogs after having a busy week painting. My goodness! I can't believe the amount of work you've done! The journal is lovely, as all of the ones you've created are. And yes, I agree with you, sharing is just like the loaves & fishes story. I think that the little things we share might NOT be so little to someone who is in need of a little inspiration or a little uplift during a troubled time in their life. We should never underestimate how brightly THEIR lights might shine if we don't hide ours under a bushel. You do this so beautifully. You are truly a kind and generous soul.\
God bless!
Diane
Hi Dawn,
What a clever idea to stitch the little bird for your new grandbaby...it would be precious. Hope you'll share. I too love your music...sometimes when I'm cooking dinner I listen to it.

At the antique shop my mom owns we just purchased a copy paper box of old patterns for redworking and stiching. They used to publish patterns in our local newspaper, some back as far as 1887. It was fun looking through and some birdies you would LOVE!
Just love chubby birdies, too.
Hugs,
Elizabeth
