Gathered treasures ~

This morning after everyone had left for work and school, I noticed the sunlight pouring through our living room into a bookcase. I walked over and noticed how beautiful the sun was shining on these tattered old books.....how beautiful they were even with their rips and stains ~ I collect these BECAUSE of their rips and stains. They have character ~

Old speckled string ~

A beautiful framed print that was a gift from my son ~

Old door knobs gathered in a jar that has no lid ~ and a nest peeking out with speckled quail eggs.

All of these objects really have nothing to do with one another except that they have character and now that they are displayed on our bookcase, behind pretty glass doors, they have an importance again. Maybe not in the way of their original purpose but just to be loved for what they are now.....lost, found, and treasured.

A little shower prep update:

A peek at the corsage that I completed today!!! Plus I found the most wonderful Laura Ashley goodies for a prize to give away at the shower. The picks are finished, the candle mats are done. I'm working on more pom poms and will just quit when I get tired of making them! (which could be sooner rather than later :) I should get the flowers tomorrow evening so I can work on the tiny arrangements ~

Wishing you a very happy Thursday sweet friends!
xxoo, Dawn

We are sisters, my friend! I, too, have been stopped in my tracks by a ray of sunshine spilling across the floor or catching on something on my shelves. I always think of it as God's little pointer, making us stop & enjoy life for a moment.

Your corsage is wonderful! I was a florist for 6 years & it brings back memories.

Thank you for a wonderful morning!

Hi Dawn!!!
I am so glad all the shower goodies have come together, they are pretty cute. It will make the event so special. The corsage is really good. The cupcakes will be too. The first grandchild is special.
I have noticed the sun changing, it is moving, and showing way to much dust here. I noticed it on the front of my stove, and had no idea how badly it needed 409ing,,I love your old books and doorknobs and I hope you have a grand day.

I know exactly what you mean by the slant of sunlight on something you deem beautiful. Old books are welcome friends in out house too. Not only do I collect them but I have read everyone that lives here. Love your displays.

The corsage is darling! I can't wait to see pictures of the whole theme all put together! Have fun arranging the flowers.

My Dear Sweet Dawn,So often when I read your posts I am struck by how you and I just must have been best friends or maybe even twins in another life! I love to see the patterns of sun coming in a window especially through sheers or lace curtains. Also I wanted to add how I love all the goodies you took the time to create for your grands baby shower.I hope they all last in a keepsake box for years to come so that the sweet little one will be able to carefully look through one day at how much she was anticipated and celebrated for her arrival. You are a dear and precious soul and you just MUST be superwoman to do all that you do in a day, still run your family and home and STILL have time to write so carefully, kindly and charmingly about it. So many us surely feel this same way, but for myself I look forward every single day first of all... to your newest activities and thoughts you share with us. Many blessings, Kim

*Your corsage turned out beautiful. *I love looking at old things - the glass door knobs are my favorite. *I saw the issue of Apronology this past weekend. Your apron looks great. I didn't buy it so I wanted to ask if you could tell me how to go about submitting an apron to the magazine? Thx! Elaine

You must be counting the hours till the party. You have made some really beautiful decorations. Done with Love from Grandma.

You haven't been to my blog in forever, you had given me such wonderful support, I hope we are okay. Big Hugs, Mary

Love the books--I have collected antique books for many years--I have a little antique bookshelf in my guest bedroom full of them. Do you ever read yours? I have read some of mine over the years--among my favorites are "Jamaica Inn" by Daphne du Maurier, "Helen's Babies" by John Habberton, and "Kiplings Stories for Children" by Rudyard Kipling. By the way, the corsage is just beautiful! Smiles, Jann
