Not that I'm the most organized person in the world BUT I do love magazines (as well as books). They give me amazing inspiration and I've loved them since I was a teenager! What do you do with all of them though? I finally had to break down and begin slicing pages of my most favorite ideas, looks, paint techniques, etc. and I slipped them into protective page covers. I placed them in notebooks and then, guess what I have? The. most. amazing. magazine. EVER!!
These notebooks are like sitting down with a magazine chock full of everything that I love. My taste, my colors ~ great ideas that I don't want to forget about. Funny thing is though, I have about twelve of them now!!! What I really need to do is take them all, remove the plastic pages and organize them by content.
Especially if you are about to redecorate or re-do a room. Start looking through magazines for ideas you love, looks you love and put them all together in a notebook. Then you can take it to the store with you when you are looking for specific items. Your idea notebook will guide you into getting the look that you love!
Don't worry though, I can't cut up some magazines. They are too treasured and will just have to go to the grave with me!! So, sit down in the evening with your exacto knife (be careful!) and slice away, slip into protective sheet covers and begin building your most favorite magazine to enjoy!

I've just finished some wonderful projects that I am about to bust to show you but I can't. I know that just makes you want to thump me in the head but you will see them one of these days, hopefully in print!!!
Have a great Wednesday sweet friends ~ xxoo, Dawn

Love your Emma doodle of yesterday. I know that you would write the most fantastic children's book. It could be about an art project! :D
I have often thought of doing what you've done with your favorite magazines, but just can't bear to cut them up. I think I need to get over it.
Thanks, too, for the excellent advice you gave me this morning. I may do that. Yes, I have embroidered on two of them so far. Have already deconstructed one and redone it only to have it fail, too. Some days are like this!
It is so funny to see that several of your magazine pages are the same ones I have torn out and saved. You must have good taste. Ha!
Dawn, that is a great idea! I hang on to magazines for way too long. A binder would be better. That way I don't have to flip past the ads and things I'm not interested in.
PS: I have given you an award. I don't know if you've already received it, but you definitely deserve it.
Dawn, that is the exact same thing I have done for the last 10 years. I have a couple of large notebooks and cut everything I like. I went back and brushed up on some ideas when I was ready to redecorate my bedroom most recently. I also do that with all the old traditions of the vintage life, dress, etc.
Glad to see someone else like me!

Dawn(and Vanessa and Faith),
I am so glad others are like me when it comes to clipping and saving of decorating ideas in notebooks. I love to go back through them and get refreshing ideas all over again. I also clip favorite pictures to decorate my simple journaling notebooks.
I do the same with my magazines. It really helps me to focus on the things I love to create and the styles that make my heart sing.
xx Nancy
Looks like we're not alone! I do the same thing... love pulling out articles of interest to save.
Although at the moment I have a pile of magazine pages... a pile of boxes to organise but haven't managed to get round to it!

Dawn,
I love your idea on how you save your magazine clippings. I have always torn and stored them in a file, but this is a much better system. Thanks,
Nellie
I am actually doing this with my scrapbook magazines. Good luck!
Dawn
such a gr8 ides...I do it with recipes, why not a wish book for the house??
Hi Dawn! I love your idea. I do the same thing. I also organize them with section dividers.... bedroom, living room, bath, kitchen, etc...Thanks for reminding me I need to go through my magazines and catch up! Enjoyed your blog! xo ~ Joy J
It is too funny because I have done the same thing. But I don't have that many notebooks b/c I couldn't stay on task. Ha...imagine that! Hugs***Renea
Thanks for the tip ! I need to do that for my daughter's vintage themed bedroom that we are working on this summer!

Funny you show this because I just started doing this myself on Sunday night. I hate to cut them up....but I feel like I will use them as a reference much more often when all of the reasons I'm keeping them for is in one concise notebook of my own. Perfect idea! Thanks for sharing!
Dawn, you do tantalize us with your tease! I hope our first peek is to see your creations in print. I am sure they a fabulous!
I knew we were kindred spirits! I too have binders of my favorite magazine ideas. I do have mine divided into categories. I use simple dividers with tabs. It is a great way to define your style and color pallet. I can still look back over older pages and be attracted to them.
I just love all your tips and tutorials, such a generous spirit!
Dawn, I started clipping my magazines when I was a teenager. At that time it was mostly fashion from Seventeen magazine. Then when I was a new wife and mother I started collecting recipes and children related articles. As the children grew older I become more focused on home and garden ideas. Now I have several binders of all my best loved pictures from home magazines. I think I am to the point of having to edit some of the older binders. Your right, there is such pleasure in looking through our binders and loving everything we see.
Now you have us curious as to what it is you have been up to behind our backs. What ever it is I know it will be fabulous.
I have the same thing at my house and I thought about organizing them by subject, but there are many things that I ripped out that would belong in several areas, or a house I ripped out because I loved the decor. I have kitchen photos that I love on one side, but the bathroom is so cute and is on the backside. If you figure out how to fix that issue I'd love to know! Love your blog!
"Ah, two minds but with a single thought"...that's what we are - I even have several of thos SAME pages! Love the reminder - keep them up!
Colleen
I do the same thing - great minds and all! But I won't cut up my Victorias - they are treasures that I love to pour over year after year.
Lorrie
this is a good idea.I too have some magazines I refuse to cut into.
My dh does this with his model railroad magazine clips. I prefer leafing through my clips so I just keep them shoved in a manila folder.
Lol - 12 organizational books huh?! It's an excellent idea though , and one I often tell myself to do (but don't).
I'll have to pretty quick here though - it's either that or move entirely!
Lol - 12 , huh?! You are an ambitious girl! Good idea though , and one I've done too. Well , started anyway.
I could have 12 on that subject , 12 more on recipes , 12 more on something else. . .I sense snow in the future. Or at least snowballing. :)
