Thoughts on sharing ~

When working on my artwork, I often think to myself, "I need to remember to share this idea with everyone." Funny how blogging pulls that out of you . . .
sharing techniques, ideas and inspiration.

Many artists are afraid to share "too much" or are constantly worried that others may copy their ideas. I find that I actually WANT others to create what I'm making ~ or if I've learned about something that works, it's so neat to pass that knowledge on.

Creativity is like the fishes and loaves story in the Bible . . . as you share your ideas, they feed other's creativity and then they are inspired. They in turn want to make something wonderful and as they share, their creativity continues to encourage others and so on. Don't you agree? And even if you create something that I've made, yours will be YOU . . . mine will be ME, as we all have our personal style and our artwork will always reflect that.

So don't ever hide your light, talent or ideas for fear of others "stealing" it away . . . go ahead, give it away and you will be inspired to always be creating something new and wonderful to share that will be uniquely "you" ~

Very well said my friend, there is room for every fish in the pond! I love the way your creativity multiplies! Your wonderful post brings to mind Luke 6:38 that says, "Give and it shall be given you in good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over...for with the same measure that you mete withal, it shall be measured to you again."

I love being inspired by other artists. I have often done a project based on another artists work but put my own spin on it and it then becomes uniquely me.

I love the example you set by having such a sweet and generous spirit. Have a wonderful weekend!

I firmly believe that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...if they copy you, it's because they love what you do! Take care and keep sharing...we enjoy it.

Yes Dawn, I also agree wholeheartedly with what you have said. What I do struggle with sometimes is when you have taught a class a project and then they go and make heaps of them and sell them at markets etc.
But then, that is my fault - if I had more time I could have been doing that!!! So I just have to grin, bear it and say "well done"!!

I love your outlook on this subject. This has been the best way for me to learn. Once I understand a process, then I go on to apply it differently.

Such a wonderful thought, I agree completely and I love the analogy to the fish & loaves- the more you give, the more you get.

Thank you for the darling picture...I will use it in my journal. It my me think of how young my own grandmother was when she got married. She was just 14 years old. Just a baby girl grown taller. Hugs, Mary

Your words were just what I needed to hear. I hear so much about "stealing" in blog land. I don't want to be paranoid about my photos and posts. I am a giver and will always have a giver's heart. Thank you for being a giver too!! And for reminding us all why we give.

Warm regards,
Karen Eileen

Thank you. Straight from the heart and so beautifully put! This is what my heart says, while my head is thinking of admonitions to the contrary. As artists, we should remain aware that our creations, especially those that really speak to others, are first of all a product of our own receptivity. We were 'given' so that we could create. And, in turn, we need to give back, to let it flow through us. And then let go completely and trust. I want to live by this and let go of all concerns to the contrary.

Thank you, Dawn, for permission to emulate your style and still be me. I am so much aware when I borrow ideas that I'm not copying but using them as springboards to my own creativity. I'm always entertained and inspired when I see what you are doing. Go for it! I love it!
