I've had this wonderful, crinkled red velvet girls dress for years now.
I stare at it every Christmas thinking "you really should make something with that"
but I don't.
Well, I've been staring at it again thinking that
it would be beautiful used for something for Valentine's day.
I'm not that keen on making holiday items though...
Christmas is about it.
I worry they won't sell then I have to stash them away.
I did decide to play though...
and here's what transpired ~
Instead of going with the deep red velvet, I pulled out the Rit Color Remover!
I was curious about what color it would turn.
So I lopped off a sleeve, sprinkled a little of the color remover in a glass bowl of
very hot water, mixed well then submerged it for about five minutes or so.
And this pink is what happened!!
Yes, it's a little mottled but I loved the aged look of it.
I rinsed it well, wrung it out and tossed it in the dryer
hoping I could create something pretty from the lone sleeve.
Here is my sweet, lavender-filled creation...
Of course I made a sachet!
I even had enough fabric to create a teeny-tiny flange ruffled edge AND
a velvet flower to adorn it.
It's about 2/3rds filled with lavender buds. I love that floppy, old, loved feel
when something's not stuffed tight.
From beginning to end, there you have it ~
Just a little playing around, experimenting...and creating!

Funny..... I have a piece of dark green velvet that I wondered if I could do the same thing. I guess I will have to try it out... It is absolutely adorable. I think my eyes popped out of my head at the finished pic. HA

You are so good at thinking outside the box. I would be waiting for Clara to be able to wear the red velvet dress and perhaps she'd be able to wear it on the hottest day of July and by Christmas it would no longer fit. It must not have been that special for Clara I am telling myself or you'd not have made this lovely sachet from one of its arms. ☺

Dawn! I can't believe it. I have a girl's dress made from the exact same red velvet. We unearthed it at my MIL's when cleaning her house out. I belonged to my SIL and she didn't want it so it's in my stash waiting for inspiration. I found it, thanks to you! You are so inspiring.

Got a Silhouette machine and what little time I have I've been trying to figure that thing out!! Gosh it is much more complicated then I had imagined! do you have one?
