A sweet surprise from the past ~

I thought it would be fun to share some photos of what I was doing about 16 years ago. I took a Wilton cake decorating class and thought I'd try to earn a little extra income making and decorating cakes. Well, I made a TON of them, didn't make very much money, worked incredibly hard (because I am a perfectionist!) and grew tired of the entire ordeal very quick!

I always had to make my buttermilk/sour cream pound cake and for a long time made my own buttercream icing. There was a wonderful cake decorating store nearby though that sold commercial icing and I soon discovered it and liked it better than my own!

Here are a few photos from my portfolio. I didn't want to bore you with too many!!

As a creative person, I've gone through many different phases. Always wanting to learn something new or try a new project. It's so funny too, the first wedding cake that I baked and sold, afterwards I went straight to Sears and bought my first sewing machine and taught myself how to sew!! So one creative venture led to another . . .

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ~ xxoo, Dawn

Is there no end to your talents...these cakes are a delight and I would like alittle bit. I have thought about taking a class, but it just hasn't happened.
What a wonderful treat & beautiful.
I had two Birthdays at lunch group today, and then Costco to shop...
so I haven't done anything on my blog yet. Arney works this weekend, so I plan to get with it!

Beautiful cakes. Is there nothing you can't do, you talented lady? Your basket of strawberries cake made me smile and think of my mother. She took a cake decorating class when we were young because she couldn't afford store bought cakes and wanted us to have pretty ones. Isn't that wonderful? We always had the most amazing, beautiful cakes, custom made exactly to our current dreams. Thanks for the good memory.

Dawn, these cakes are so beautiful, you must feel so proud of your accomplishments. You are so right as a creative I love to try different things, it is as if once I have mastered a new technique I am off finding something new to learn. One creative stepping stone after another. Karen

What true talent, I once as well thought I would take a class and make money making cakes...Well it is much harder than it looks..By the time I took the class and of course bought all the supplies I never made money, but I can say I tried...MISSY

Your cakes are GORGEOUS! I've often thought of taking a course myself, not to make money at it so much as to be able to show off a little at functions where I take a cake. ;-)

PS- I can't remember if I've already posted this before or not, but your dog, Ellie, has got to be the cutest thing I've ever seen (but I'll deny I said it if my dog asks)! ;-)

Dawn....
Awesome cakes...and I KNOW how difficult they are to create! I never took classes...but I had all the Wilton goodies to create cakes, I mainly did it just for birthday cakes...which usually consisted of something odd...like the lilac colored "boom" box I created for my daughter...actually it was quite good...I also created other things...but again...NOTHING as beautiful as yours!! I never really got the hang of the roses...but funny thing...when our son was in culinary school at the CIA...he of course had to take a semester in baking...you should see him "whip" out one of those roses...or rose buds...it amazes me! Little stinker!

Blessings...and what a treat it was to see all these beautiful sweets!
