I love cloches ~ and suitcases?

I do love glass cloches or bell jars. They simply add importance to what is safely tucked underneath. This particular one sits on our dining table with a couple of bird figurines and nestled in between, a small bundle of flowers. Simple, but what I love!

You may see old suitcases in the photos below, but do you know what I see? Great art supplies! They have wonderful pockets for my treasurepocket trays . . .

And I just love the gathered panel below, I'm still thinking about what I can do with this treasure!!

Look at the straps lying in the bottom of this suitcase. Looks as though they have never been untied! I love the way they look and plan on keeping them tied and using them in another project.

This last suitcase is not one for my artwork, but just one that I keep in our bedroom on the large cedar chest at the foot of the bed. I love the lining of it ~ it is the most unique color. Funny to see beauty is such an ordinary item . . .

you're up late! I came back to your sight tonight to look at your links once again and noticed you've updated! I, too, love old suitcases and use them for so many purposes! Sounds a bit silly, but I love the old smell and knowing that someone carried a bit of their life in them :) excited to see what treasures you create for us! ~Nancy

Dawn, I love those old suitcases too. Reading about the bell jar reminded me of a book I read by Sylvia Plath with the same name.
Hope you have a good Friday.

Imagine a secret old miniature theater inside a suitcase! Those ruched up pockets reminded me of a stage curtain.

I have both of my grandmothers old suitcases and I use them as display cases...I put them on the floor in a corner and open them up and leave them opened and I tuck all my little cross stitched pillows, pynkeeps, etc all throughout...it is so cute you just want to cry! :)

I saw an old suitcase like this yesterday when I went thrifting. My mind went racing on how I could use it. I'm old enough to remember these and the matching train cases with their beautiful linings.

I'll never see what you see, Dawn, but I love to "see" through your eyes. That is such a wonderful color...perfect for a sweater...I'd buy it in a minute.

Hi Dawn...I to love old suitcases and have a stack of them by my bedside that I use for a side table, they also have some treasures hidden away in them. I also wanted to say,I love the sweet vintage teddy bear tutorial you gave. I myself antiqued a Teddy bear a few years back and she turned out very original looking. I clipped and shaved her fur and matted it with white glue, clip a bit of her ear and sewed it back. I dressed her in an antique baby dress with tiny crocheted roses on it,and a little pink pok-a-dot pinafore. I will post a picture of Miss. Bear some time soon.

Thanks for sharing this post, Dawn.....

Dawn - I love visiting your site. Some day I believe I'll see a Dawn Edmonson version of a magazine along the lines of The Home Companion.

I love the bell jars. Do boys play with them??? And if I put bills under them would it render them more important ;-)

Happy Friday, Dawn!

I love your bell jar. It's true, it makes whatever is inside seem more special because it is protected and put in a place of importance.

Old suitcases are fun. I have one, similar to yours. It is amazing, but it smells fresh when I open it, no musty scent.

I found your blog from Deena, "Can I be Pretty in Pink." Have a great Friday. I like your blog. I will come back and visit you. My blog name is similar your your blog name. Kathi

Dawn,
I love the bell jars, too...I always admire them when I see how others have used them...I think I NEED to get me a few...I can't believe I haven't already!

Love old suitcases, too...but I've never been able to see past the history of them...I just like to imagine where they have been, who carried them and the history that they hold. Unlike you...my creativity is at a bit of a standstill these days...but I certainly love seeing things through your creative eye...can't wait to see what you create!

By the way...if you have time...please check out my blog and the announcement on my latest post...I would love to hear your thoughts on this...it is such an exciting time for all of us...curious to know of any ideas you may suggest as far as this venture...you're so creative...maybe you can see this go in more directions...

Blessings...
Teresa

My favorite suitcase is an old battered black hard cardboard one. It is full of old ephemera! Yours are lovely. You told us what you do with the inside, what do you do with the suitcase once you have removed the parts you plan to create with?

Old suitcases are so pretty no matter what room they are in. I have one medium sized one and looking for more. Last summer I managed to find three small ones that I think were used by women to carry their makeup. Everything you do turns out so beautiful. I thought I left a comment about the bear but I don't see it so I will tell you again that I LOVE how sweet you made her look.

Dawn,
I love garden cloches and old suitcases too. But the bear down the page stole my heart away. I will visit your blog often. What a lovely treasure your blog is.
Thank you,

Your sweet and charming bear sitting in a vintage suitcase crosses my mind - makes me think it's time to go treasure hunting again! You make everything so inviting Dawn. Perfect sunny, warm Sat. morning so I'm off to my favorite shop SuzAnna's, to just look around - famous last words! They are also having a pass-along plant sale today so I must be there for that.

Enjoy your weekend - I know you will make it a creative one dear friend.
(By the way - what happened to Cindy's blog - seems to have shut down - I'm missing her but found the shop blog - perhaps she can't keep up with two? Bet you'll be at her sale today - lucky you!)
