Have you ever received a gift that is so "you" that you can't believe the giver knew how much you'd love that particular item?? Last Christmas I had a sweet friend and customer of The Plum Tree give me the most wonderful gift . . . it's this sample button card from an old store. I guess that's what it is but all I know is that I LOVE IT!
I just couldn't believe she bought it for me! The tattered corners, the handwriting under each button and of course, the gorgeous buttons themselves ~ everything is just so beautiful to me. I keep it in an odd place. It's leaning inside of a large, old doll trunk that is opened on my hearth, just so I can see it all the time. Don't you think they are miniature works of art?
To stop and think about what someone really loves, collects and enjoys is the true secret of gift-giving. Try not to think of what you love, but what do they love. It may be something so inexpensive, simple and easy-to-find. Often we think if it's expensive and flashy, they will really love it, but that's not always the case. If it's thoughtful, true to what the receiver loves and enjoys ~
it will be a gift to be cherished . . .

I'm so happy that this special treasure collection found its way to someone who would truly "cherish" it always.

These buttons are lovely...such a simple gift to give, but it has obviously been given from the heart because it speaks to your heart. Of course you want this somewhere that you can just gaze on it's beauty.
That's such a lovely gift, I always find it's the more thoughtful gifts I remember and not the expensive ones.
Best Wishes

i am not surprised at all that one of your customers "knows" you so well...as i am sure you are one of the most giving and attentive shopkeepers there ever was. i'd still just love to pop in there one day and sit for a long chat...then go out for a margarita! ha!
how can you NOT love that!!???
J'adore ces vieux cartons de boutons et les boƮtes sur lesquels ils s'affichent !!!
Dawn, these are wonderful!! And you are right about gift giving. People should observe what others really love before purchasing them a gift. I always try to do that. Because when you get something you love you always remember that. Good post. xoxo Nita
