I made this little faerie journal for my son Brent's girlfriend (and future DIL!) Emily because she wants to start jotting down ideas for a book she's going to write. She just started her own blog so while she visited this past week I was able to help her with her banner and show her how to change her background!
I found this incredible textured scrapbooking paper at Michael's and used it as the foundation for my altered composition book. I used Matte Gel Medium from the artist's section at Michael's. You can slather it on, lay the paper on and then place another coat on top of the paper. Then I just layer on the components on that I love.
Do you know what I love about collage work? That imperfection is the beauty of it all. I have such a perfectionist streak in me that I have to MAKE myself give it an imperfect look, but you see I still had to center things up on the page . . . Oh well, I wanted to do more to this book for Emily but they will be returning to Savannah today so I had to stop to let it dry so I could give it to her!

OH this is so nice! I really want to be more creative this coming year, I'd love to make one of these. You make it look almost easy! I love your blog.
Oh, how pretty! I'm pretty sure your son's girlfriend will love it!
Blessings to you and yours during 2008.
Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us. ~Hal Borland.

Dawn this is beautiful and I'm sure your future DIL loved it...I love what you said about collage work...it is imperfect and I think that's one of the things that is so attractive and intriguing about it.
Wishing you a very Happy New Year filled with much love, laughter and an abundance of inspiration.
What a beauty of a book!
Wishing you a very creative and inspiring new year!

Dawn, you are so generous with your knowledge. You are right about hairspray...have often used it as a sealant. First, because I was desperate, now because I like it just as well as the real thing. It even holds glitter to an object and a very light dusting stiffens millinery flowers just enough to freshen up their appearance. The ones with lacquer work best for me. Congratulations! on your good news. I will be standing in line at the newstand for my copy! May many, many more blessings come your way in the new year. ~Annie
What a beautiful journal! I love the fairy poem and the little fairie-brownie that you sketched. Wonderful!
