My chickens are now about six months old and
I've been checking online so I'd know when to expect them
to begin laying their eggs....
So I mosey on out to the coop today and look what I found!!!!
Two of the most beautiful tan eggs ever!!!
Of course, I'm such a goob, I had to place them in a nest
for the photo shoot....like I'm a new grandma showing them off!
They're not really that big....maybe the first ones are smaller?
I'm not too familiar with chicken stuff.
I think I'm going to have to blow these out and save them,
Kinda crazy? Oh yeah. But who cares ~
I just love them.....
I believe these two eggs are from my two barred rocks...the black and white striped chickens ~
I found this pic online of a barred rock egg ~ looks kinda like them I think!
OH! and this next photo may totally gross you out
but look what my son "took care of" this evening!!!
Yes, I know a king snake is good to get rid of critters but I DIDN'T
want this snake getting rid of my chickens OR their eggs!!!!
He was a creepy 6 feet long!
Ahhhh. Farmhouse livin'....it's the life for me!
Have a great Friday sweet friends ~
hugs and love to you all,
Dawn

Fresh eggs! I'll have mine sunny side up, please!! Bright orange yolk and so much flavor! And, yes - do keep that snake out of the yard! You remember what happened the last time one got into the garden . . .
Joy!
Miss Kathy
Sweet eggs:) Love the eggs in the nest! AND a snake is a snake... and the only good one at my house is a dead one! Sorry snake lovers! Have a blessed and snakeless day:) HUGS!
How exciting your first eggs! Farm life is exciting. Thanks for sharing it with us. (but you can keep the snake!)
ewwwwww, hate snakes!!!
Love the eggs, hate the snake ( although I would never want to see one hurt).. We also have a farm and one summer I was working in the garden with our Shepherd Sara, I had an old carpet lying near by to get rid of. I was pulling some weeds around it when suddenly I saw the biggest gardner snake I had ever seen sunning itself on the carpet. I don't know who jumped higher, me or Sara.
Have a nice weekend

Beautiful eggs! We used to have a pet rooster and tiny hen. She laid really small eggs. I couldn't bring myself to eat them (and I'd have to save 2 weeks worth just to make an omelet). I hollowed out the eggs and wrote the date that she laid them. Now I have tiny eggs to decorate with.
How exciting ! I miss my chickens...When a hen starts laying the eggs are called Pullets . Her eggs will get bigger as she does. I loved the little ones too... HAPPY FARMING !
EEK! Don't like snakes..even the good ones..sorry, snakes, it's not you..it's me. No wait..it IS you!
Have you read Alice Walker's "Chicken Chronicles - Sitting with Angles"? love love love it and I think about all the bloggers with chickens every time I read another chapter :-)
Have a wonderful snake-less weekend..

Congrats on your first eggs! Of course you have to keep them. The snake that your son took care of looks like a black snake like we have up here in Penna. I don't mind them around because they control all the rodents, mice and voles, we have around our place here in the woods but I'm always on the look out for them going after my many bird houses in the spring when the baby birds are in them. So keep a close watch on the hen house now that they are laying eggs.
Hugs!!
Linda
Your first eggs, how exciting for you. I don't blame you, they should be saved especially since the are so small and cute. Glad you chose to blow them out to save for some lovely way I'm sure you'll find to display them as you are so wonderful at that! I don't remember tasting a fresh egg although I'm sure I did at my grandparent's farm when I was young! Is there a big difference?
Those are beautiful eggs. I would be proud, too. As for the snake...I'd be thrilled to have him gone. They can get into such tiny places. *shudder*
Congrats on your first eggs ,it is so exciting to find the first ones.My son brought home a baby chick from elementary school and the first egg it laid became a Christmas tree ornament. It still hangs on my tree each year. Have a great weekend.Jen
eggs... different sizes and colors depending on the hen species...
snakes... we had one of those a few weeks ago... they are creepy... and they do like to invade chicken coops... but... they also eat mice and rats that like to eat chicken feed...

Dawn, I have the best of both worlds. Town living from the front porch and farm living from the back. We have about 5 acres in town with bannie chickens, horse and 2 donkeys. Fun, fun!
What sweet little eggs. Maybe it takes the girls a little practice to make em bigger! You are so cute, taking their picture in a nest!
