Farmhouse livin' ~

Having been here now almost a year,
there's just a bit of adjustment moving into an old house!

For one, this past winter we had to get the entire duct work
replaced under the house....from that springy type to the sheet metal type,
as critters were chewing through and traveling under us!!! I know...creepy.

A month or so ago, my hubs came home from work
and as he was stepping up onto the porch
thinking that I had the garden hose draped across the steps
but NO,
it was a real king snake sunning himself!!!!
After Ellie gave him a good sniff he scurried off to his home....
Oh well, he'll take care of the critters is what I say ~

Yesterday, I looked into the front flower bed....what do I see?
A big, ol' snakeskin that was shed out there!!!!
I just keep thinking, yes, that's a good thing ~
they do keep those varmits away, right?

Thank goodness we have someone coming tomorrow to paint the outside of the house....
as pieces of it are slinging themselves out into the yard with this Georgia heat!

And then just awhile ago, I hear crack, boom and crash!
Not knowing what it could be, I called to have someone check the back yard.
I thought maybe a deer had jumped the fence and couldn't get out ~
I see them all the time around here...but no.
It was a massive pecan tree limb that crashed to the ground!!!
They are tender trees....can't take much or they will shed their limbs.
And it was FULL of pecan babies too!

This old 1925 home is a wonderful place to live ~
I love this house....so much character, so much history.

Remember this artwork?
I just added it to my Etsy shop......

Have a great Wednesday my sweet friends,
hugs and love,
Dawn

I do and don't envy you your 1925 house. Once upon a time i too lived in a house built around that timeframe, but then it was only about 30 years old... which seemed really old to my 6 yr old self. It was on an Iowa farm, and I LOVED it there. Must admit I LOVE my old fashioned looking house that we built 7-1/2 years ago. It has a southern style to it, albeit we live in the Northwest. Front and back porches we use daily...weather permitting here of course. I can see why you love that country farmhouse.

Thank you for sharing those experiences with us, Dawn...living in city-suburbia (next door to the University) my most harrowing experiences were just 2: the first being a neighbors kitty who got into the crawl space under the house and plastered his face against the vent screen, screaming to get out...scared the beejeebies out of me; but not as much as the squirrel who fell down the living room fire place and was a trip and a half corralling him out the back patio door! Don't think I could handle the snake!

Oh your house is beautiful. The houses we have in England are mostly old, some very very old and they are beautiful, but have such a lot of issues with things like plumbing and foundations - lots of hard work.

Hmmm...charming farmhouse vs. king snake? I say the farmhouse wins!
Is that a tin roof? I love the looks of tin roofs.

Now that's a lot of excitement! Yikes. Any way to use those snake skins in some project? ☺ I am only teasing...

It's a sweet little farmhouse and I'm so glad that you're its mommy now. You'll take good care of it.

Ohhhh Dawn I would have totally freaked out seeing a snake on my porch ~ But I just adore your farmhouse!! I am thinking I would totally keep the snakes if I could live there :)

Dawn, I'm guessing that owning an old farm house is a bit like creating artwork. You have to sit with it a while and see what it needs, perfection will take time. Glad that there is someone in the that beautiful house that will give it what it needs.

We deal with much the same thing. Had a snake in the cellar and I've seen a few snakeskins - mice that have to controlled - you name it! That's life in the country!

Yikes, I am not a fan of the snakes! We have had our share around our home and they give me the creeps! Enjoy your day my friend, hope it is a good one! HUGS!

I was watching the chipmunks playing out by our stonewall this morning thinking to myself boy hadn't seen you guys around in awhile. Black snakes have made it their home for a few years.
I vote for the chipmunks everytime!

Good luck with the critters!

Dear Dawn, I have to say that it would be me or the snake!;-) I am so happy for you, living in your dream farmhouse. Even with all the work and headaches, there's no place like home! Have a great summer. Love, Penny

Dawn, I loved seeing the outside pics of your farmhouse. Everything under the sun has pluses and minuses. I guess I would pick a black snake over critters! LOL

Dawn loved seeing the pictures of your house and hearing your sweet tales. We live in a house built in 1895. Many challenges but we completely remodeled in 1995 - 1996. Hardest nine months of labor I had!

Thankyou for sharing your american farmhouse. As I will probably never get to the USA I appreciate the fact that I can visit through your blog. Love the 'waltonesque' screen door so much. My favourite TV series ever!
