Chicken little breaks out!

I was determined to try this....
especially after hearing how much we all have in common!
I've put this off long enough ~
I purchased the Melting Pot at Michael's with a 50% off coupon, YAAAY!
Then I drove down the road and bought the beeswax at Hobby Lobby using their
40% off coupon.....this, my friends, is the way to buy new art supplies!

I printed out a precious little baby image on my printer ~
then printed this gorgeous image that was Lisa's gift in one of her tutorials.
I trimmed tracing paper to an 8 1/2" x 11" size so I could feed it through my printer.
Well, the ink stays pretty wet and I waited awhile for it to dry.....no dice.
Then I sprayed it with a fixative (for pastels, etc.) and it worked great!

Then it was time to load up the pot ~ the cool thing about this melting pot is that it's temperature controlled!
Plus they tell you not to go over 180 degrees for wax...I have to have directions :)

My artwork is usually so structured....very so-so.
But this is so LOOSE!
I have to tell you though, I LOVED IT!
I've been wanting so bad to loosen my style up just a little....
and this, my friends, FORCED me!

I slathered on beeswax, dipped the image inside using tweezers...then the best part of all,
using my heat gun to melt it all again and thin out all that I'd caked up!

Here's the result:

I can't believe it, I LOVE IT!!!
I've got to try more....
What do you think?

My precious granddaughter, Clara....just lovin' life!

Tellin' her mama the way it is!

Did I tell you this angel is a nature lover?
She's holding a little frog then let's him go on his merry way ~

Have a WONDERFUL Friday dear friends,
hugs and love,
Dawn

Congrats! Wonderful work. Looking forward to a lot more inspiration now that you've gotten your feet wet. Just another dimension to what you already do. I think wax is a great compliment to your personal style.

LOVE your new waxed piece Dawn - it´s so beautiful. It´s so much fun using wax. Never thought of using the heather though - have to try that out.
Wishing you a beautiful day sweet friend.

I too struggle with getting out of my comfort zone in crafting and sometimes trying something new. I just need to push myself to try it and enjoy the process. Love what you did with the beeswax!

It is beautiful; I love how wax adds such rich look to your stunning creation! I so want to go get one now, lol. Next week; I have to cross the state line to go get my craft items, so worth it. We don't have a Hobby Lobby...I'm jealous :D

I love the photos of Clara...she is such a doll!
enJOY!

And did you use an old book cover for your base? Love it. You should "loosen" up more often.

ooh fixative to fix printer ink refusing to dry, brilliant! I never thought of using tracing paper before either ... if you have a little iron you can remelt the wax that way and move it around... although I never fail to do that without a) cursing and b) getting puddles of wax from the iron on my table....

Dawn, you are just too sweet. I love this post and I WANT your creation. It is beautiful.
I've got to tell you, making loose pieces is the best, it's so much more comfortable working with frayed edges and it relaxes me.

Love it Love it Love it...is your piece for sale?

Great art! Keep your eyes peeled at thrift stores etc for gently used beeswax candles. Same stuff only cheaper. That's what I use. I found a giant beeswax candle at a yard sale, it was broken in half but it will last me for years and years. Thanks for sharing! Hugs!

I love your wax piece. I have been telling myself I do NOT need to buy stuff to play with wax but this post may have lured me over!

Hello, Dawn, little Clara is just such a beautiful child. She looks like an angel!
I want to tell you something: Just in the last few days, I saw something on a cable station about keeping your children away from those little frogs. I hesitated to write this to you because I didn't hear enough of the story. It could have been just a crazy tease to a story, but you may want to look into it. I noticed that no one else mentioned it. I enjoy your blog SO much. Thank you for all you do.

Yep. I knew the minute you tried it you'd be hooked. I have the same little melting pot and love it. What I don't have is a heat gun. Well I did but I can't find it. Stashed it away or perhaps gave it away because I never used it. Still even without a heat gun, I was waxing everything that didn't move LOL

But I so know what you mean about being a "chicken". Last night I was out there reading blogs.... however, I had just finished one of the pillows for the show (new design) and was happy with it. And then I froze into a big old chicken. What if the next one I make doesn't turn out. What if. What if. What if. So I retreated back out of the room and took a safe seat in front of the computer. Yep. I can relate to chicken all too well. You'd laugh with me if you knew all the kewl things that I have bought supplies for and am afraid to try. I mean c'mon what if it doesn't turn out and then I've wasted the money I spent on those supplies. Yep. I feel your pain LOL Please DO stop by and see me at Country Living. This chicken will need a fellow chicken hug for sure!

Deborah and Romeo (who wants a big poster of him out front at the show ;)

Hi Dawn, I'm glad you like it I haven't had time to open mine up and try it, but will soon, on my "to do" list, have fun! Marilou

Yippie! You did it girl! And it came out great! Isn't working in wax wonderful! And the feeling when the piece comes together is priceless! Since you sew, you can use, (dedicate an old one), a clover seam iron, (the one with the different heads, but use the triangle head), heat it up, and you can move through the wax like butter. Also take a soft cloth like a tee shirt and you can gently buff the wax to be shinny.
I'm glad you got over your hesitation and jumped right in!
Enjoy!!! xo

Dawn, Isn't it fun??? I've done a few pieces like this and totally love the results. I like the autograph book overlay. Now I know what to do with my old autograph book! I love that printing on tissue makes the paper just seem to disapear and the image to remain.
That little Claire is SO cute and growing up SO fast! Enjoy yourself!
Hugs,
Sherry
