I like strange things ~

I guess if you read my blog regularly you already know this!!! Over the years I've found myself loving odd items ~ but that's one thing wonderful about getting older!!!! I can like weird things and not worry about being "with it", you know what I mean?

I found this gorgeous clock face at Kirkland's....in the clearance section because it was one of those that didn't have a protective glass covering and the hands always get bent and make them not work right. I couldn't believe how beautiful it was even without hands!!! Yes it's just created on cheap press board but I love it for it's "look" and had to have it ~ for a mere 12.00 I thought I could use it as a base for a piece of artwork even!! For now it's front and center on our hearth....just so I can stare at it :)

Even our children know what I love....
one of them gifted me this old wasp's nest and said,
"hey mom, maybe you could use this in your artwork"
Instead, it's displayed on our mantle ~ weird, huh?

A couple of other odd things one the mantle, two hand brooms!!!
Don't you think they look lovely next the the silver candlestick?? :)
I think they are beautiful ~

Try to see the beauty in common, everyday things ~
they make me smile!!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!
hugs and love,
Dawn

I'm with You, Dawn..... I like the Odd, the Cast Offs.... My kids don't understand, they always are saying, "What did You Do Now", "What are You going to Do with That" or Just "Why?"
I think, They think it is Not Only that I am getting Older (53) but that I Live Alone.... I'm just having Fun~
Keep Sharing

Oh my goodness, the clock face from Kirkland's is magnificent - of course, you had to get it - it would have been WRONG not to. I have a thing for clocks too mostly, I think, because my younger brother had started collecting them several years ago and had about 200 of them when he went to heaven in March. I did receive about 12 of them and they now catch my eye everywhere and remind me of Kenneth. He saw the art in them and now I do too. Also, that they represent Time, that precious commodity that he was running out of and that we wish we had more of.

Enjoy your pretties and have a Blessed New Year.
Come to see me and I'd be honored if you'd follow me also...

Thank you for stopping by today! Always love for you to visit. Yes, I have been creating & having a good time with it. I need to do so many things but, I think that is how everyone is...more on the to do list than the finished list. Are you getting any of our snow? You know we are here in the south... a single flake & we go nuts. Also, thanks for sharing you treasures. They make such pretty statements. Stay warm & safe for New Years. And thank you for all you do for all of us through out the whole year! LOVE you sweetie. Hugs! Charlene

Dear Dawn,
I have always been attracted to what I call "quirky" things. When I first moved into the new cabin--I told my friends and family-I needed to quirk things up a bit!
I come to your blog often for inspiration-no strangeness here-only beauty!
May you have a very happy New Year!-with love from the Cabin,
Claudia O.

Yes Dawn finding beauty in many things only has one draw back....
I don't have a house big enough to keep it all!
You and I have been up to the same thing the past few days...Organizing our spaces...

Strange + weird = wonderful in my book! Sounds like a lot of us are just as strangely weird as you!! I think it's marvelous how you see the beauty in so many different things. You help us to "look & see" in a whole new way!

I hope you had a joy-filled birthday and a very, merry Christmas.

Have a blessed New Year too!

Just think, Dawn...if everyone liked the same kinds of things how boring life would be! Nothing you displayed in your photos is anything but fun! I like art that makes me smile! All of your displays are art - and they always make me smile!
Have a happy, quirky day! ;-) We love ya this way!

In some strange way, I think the clock looks better broken. It tells of the wild life it has had = like us!

I also found a cute little yellow jacket nest that I keep in my printer drawer in my hall. How cool is that?

Have a wonderful, fantabulous 2010!

Happy hunting,
Teresa

Its so nice to be in such good company! i just dragged home two old stove parts, a small oven door and a back piece that fit across the back of the stove. I can't wait to clean them up and incorporate them into my junk style.

Hey girl- I actually have a skeleton hanging in my office/craft space (on purpose- not a left over from Halloween)so I'm always a big fan of "original" use of common things. You always do it up right. Hope to see you soon at our favorite place- Joy

Yes, I love the unusual and quirky juxtaposed with the traditional, more accepted things, too. How fun that your kids "get it."

You know I love anything to do with clocks, parts, faces, gears, whether they be new or old, my fav being old! Another word for our love of 'different' things might be eccentric. You have to be that way to create. I like being out of the norm! Bless their little hearts for picking up that little wasp nest, I love it!

Blessings,
Linda

I was first attracted to your blog long ago by the title as I have long collected nests that fall from my tall trees in my yard. I have lived here my whole life! I also enjoy the simple splendor of everyday items as art. I am not well understood by many of my friends but I guess they love me anyway. Glad you are a kindred spirit.
