I can't help myself....

I'm out shopping for Christmas gifts, and I pop in Hobby Lobby, just to pick up some beeswax because I've been dying to try it in a collage
(And of course I have a coupon I need to use too!) ~

Well, I find a gorgeous cream tulle remnant, 4 yards for not even three bucks....gotta have it! I have a thing for cream tulle....I used it as garland on my Christmas tree last year. I bought a big roll at Michael's with a coupon (it's about 6" wide by tons of yards long)...I can't find it anywhere!!! What is that? I'm sure it's up in the attic and the boy's aren't finding the right box it's in :)

Anyway, I pass a thrift store while out Christmas shopping....well, let's just see if they have anything interesting.....

several tiny old ornaments ~ with the perfect patina!

A bebe crock pot for my wax, 2 bucks!!! A wonderful old hat case that I just love, only three dollars!! I know they're not Christmas gifts BUT they were really, really inexpensive things ~ an old dictionary for cents, the old aquarium I found at an antique mall last week for a mere 7 dollars, I just forgot to show it to you :)

I love this old jar, .99 ~

I did buy a few Christmas gifts while I was out too!!

I tried making a few pom-poms out of the tulle for our Christmas tree ~ We have a cathedral ceiling and we've placed our 6 ft tree on top of a table to make it seem grand and I hate to get it down to do the garland, drape thing so I thought, how about bunches of tulle tucked into the tree?

I cut the piece of tulle 8" x about 54"
Also cut an 8" piece of thin wire
and starting bunching from one short end ~

Cinched it up in the center of the 8" with the wire ~

Pulled up both sides and cut it with scissors so the edges would be even ~

Tied it with a thin strip of tulle, tie it tight in a knot. (This is where it reminds me of those little ghosts we made when I was a child out of tissues and yarn!)

A simple poof of tulle ~ I need to make more to see what I think of the look :)
I'd better hurry though, Christmas is coming fast!!!

A few wonderful things I'd love to share with you ~

Kathy of Sweet Up-North Mornings made this gorgeous angel in a jar as a tribute to her precious friend she recently lost in a car accident....I had to show you how beautiful it is ~
hugs and love to you dear Kathy.

Hi Dawn,
I love your blog. I also do the tulle poofs in my Tea Room tree. They're not quite as neatly done as yours, but I like how they look. I have a picture up on one of my posts.
Hope Claire feels better soon. I know what you mean about how terrible you feel when children are sick.

It sure is hard to pass by the thrift shops, I can't get anything done for making my rounds to the thrifts and Habitat.
I love all of your lovely things and the tulle on the tree is so pretty.
I hope your little one feels better soon.

I just can't resist a thrift store, either. Just can't . . . I hear the little treasures calling out to be rescued! Never let it be said I didn't do my part!

I know the situation well ~ I've been trying to keep a list {more like lists} in my pocketbook so if I find I am somewhere that has what I'm looking for, I can cross it off the list. Apparently, that doesn't work for me!

Dawn... I've got tons of ivory tulle... I decorated my booth with it in Geronimo... and I still have tons... thanks for the great ideas... It's hard to pass up a good thrift bargain no matter what time of the year it is! I picked up some great finds with Candy (Rock Candy) this week and posted about them yesterday. Now, I'm off to pull out that tulle and start making some pompoms!
Christmas Blessings. Dixie

Thank you for all your comments about this and that. I had gotten a new large size crock pot and it came with a small one inside and I didn't really know what I would do with it - NOW I do! Can't wait to see your beeswax project - so much inspiration going at a time when free time is scarce! Merry Christmas!

Dawn, I can't wait to see your finished projects with the beeswax. I added it to my Christmas wish list because this year because I haven't been able to spend it on myself (yet). I did get an itty bitty crock pot just like yours at the goodwill shop for a few bucks...too funny.

Dawn,
Poor Clara, there is nothing worse than listening to your little one with croup. It's heartbreaking. Love the tulle tutorial (wow, say that fast 3 times!) and all of the HL goodies. Lisa

Super fun finds! I have a tiny crock for my bees wax but I usually just just a small quilting iron, I have more control and I like the long flat extra tip for spreading it on evenly. Both ways work well, also a tiny electric skillet works good too. I can't wait to see how you use your wax in your project.

I hope Clara is better soon. Have a sweet evening.

Love it! So what are you going to do with the fabric? Ok to share an idea with you....
Take your fabric..maybe puddled under tree for a tree skirt? Lay soft clear lights under it...then puddle tull over the top of it...whalaa...fabulous look. I have a house I decorate every year...I use pink..yes pink...satin...feather boas and tulle..it looks so sft. Then on a sofa table I use fabic with light over it to display her lladro nativity set...the look is so fabulous that she never wants to take it down! Hey..I've so missed visiting...being a Grammy sure keeps a gal busy...stop by to see our Jalina Rose!

Oh, such pretties, Dawn! And simple ones too! It just goes to show how pretty doesn't have to cost a lot of money.

I do hope baby Clara will be better soon! I remember holding my Holly in my arms all through the night when she was a wee one and had a cold. I rocked and rocked all night just to make sure her head was elevated and she could breathe. No way could I have left her alone in her crib. She celebrated her 40 something birthday yesterday! Such a blessing, these children from God! And I have two.
:-)
Blessings to you and your family, always,
Diane
