The little box that could ~

Do you remember the little box that I deconstructed to transform???
It now has a new life, a new purpose...
to make you smile!

Before:

 After:

Measuring only about 2 1/2" wide and about 2 1/4" tall....
she is now an "Ode to Spring"!!

I also went treasure hunting and
you know I have to share with you what I discovered!

Hobby Lobby has a massive Easter section and I found this wonderful ribbon.
It is much neater than burlap and since I am in love with textures ~
I had to buy a roll!! It was on sale too :)

I also hit the antique mall and found a few teeny treasures.
I'm such a cheapie that I never come home with tons but what I do find,
is priced low and always what I love!

A neat old poetry book ~ why do I love these old books so?
I can't help myself!

I have a soft spot in my heart for old pincushions too...
I'd been admiring this one for months.
I guess it was meant to be mine as it was marked 50 percent off!

Plus a pair of old rhinestone earrings, perfect to adorn an altered bottle...

Inside the poetry book:

And lastly, a tiny little brown transferware bowl, plate thing.
It's stained up but I don't care, I will love it like it is brand new!

The photo below is really awful, but I found this pair of frames...
and the front glass is domed,
I always love that!!!
And as much as I love botanicals,
the dried flowers and butterflies inside were destroyed.
The back was glass too but I took it off,
removed the dead stuff and washed the frames really well.
Now they wait....to become something new!

Making the old new again....
transforming a cast off into something treasured,
or just loving something because of it's history~
it's what truly thrills my soul!!!!

Have a beautiful Wednesday dear friends,
I treasure your visits and always love your comments!

hugs and love,
Dawn

Hello. My name is Dawn and yes, I am a hoarder!!!
(just of cool stuff though)

Last week I headed to our little antique space to put a few goodies in ~
I'm making another pile of stuff to take on my next trip too!
It has taken me forever to get this house looking the way I want it to.

Well, I always do a little treasure hunting while I'm out and
found a few things I've got to share with you!

I scanned these first three images from a small book
I found that features plants of the Bible ~
They are beautiful botanical prints,
be sure to click twice to make them large before saving :)

I've had this postcard for a while and finally scanned it for you too!

Here are my small but wonderful treasures!
Look at the graphics on this small stamp box!!!! YIKES!!!
I'm such a sucker for graphics and antique typefaces ~
A few of the stamp parts had fallen off their wooden bases
so I've got to glue those back on.
Were all of the letters there?
Only the "P" is missing!
Who cares...

I love the pointing hand!!!

And just look at this old pincushion! Topped with millinery....I fell in love instantly.
I have a thing for pincushions anyway ~

And this little box.
I thought it was charming and it was so inexpensive...I had to buy it!
After I studied it for awhile, I realized it's an old collar box!!!!!
If you squint your eyes and tilt your head just so
you can read on the front "Ward's Collars No 3"
Now I REALLY love it!
I know, I'm a hoarding freak but it's tiny finds like these that make me smile ~

It's time to make something...
Too many days have passed by ~

Have a great Tuesday my dear friends!!
hugs and love,
Dawn

Imperfection....

I have to admit something to you.
I used to be hopelessly obsessed with everything being
absolutely PERFECT!!

My home, my children and whatever was around me ~
Needed to be clean, pressed and without blemish.

But as the years passed and
the boys grew older,
I had to back away from this perfection thing.
Five children will definitely make you realize
that you can't do it all wonderfully, perfectly or
have your home be that way!

So now it seems I embrace imperfection.
I find myself saying,
"If it's not scratched, dented, chipped or stained
it doesn't belong in this house because
it's a coming!!!!"

I search out tattered treasures ~

Try to rescue them and turn them into something new ~
Embracing their flaws and addi a few touches here and there.

Wrinkles, stains....no matter ~
the beauty of surviving time is wonderful to me.

Lost, forgotten but then found and loved...
this is the beauty of imperfection ~

You'd think with so many flaws these things wouldn't be loved....

Sometimes I feel like these tattered treasures are so much like ourselves.

We are all so very imperfect.....

But we are truly loved by our Lord in Heaven above....
even with our many imperfections!
And the proof??
He sent his precious Son, Jesus Christ to this Earth
on that very first Christmas day so long ago ~
And Jesus sacrificed His life to pay for our imperfections
so we could live in Heaven forever ~

It's so good to love imperfection....

Wishing you a blessed and happy Monday precious friends,
hugs and love,
Dawn
