Dreaming of Fall...

Don't hate me, but I have NEVER been a fan of summer.
Even when I was skinny (which was for about five minutes)
I couldn't take the summer heat!!!
The highs have been in the triple digits here in Georgia so....
even though I never want to wish my life away,
I can always look forward to my favorite season of the year!
FALL!!!!
So I looked back and thought I'd share
a past fall post....
Maybe to cool you down (in your mind?)
So read the following as though we are cooling down
and approaching autumn....

I'm ready for crisp, cool weather...
the smell of campfires in the air and
the bright, blue sky that is so
beautiful on a fall day ~

A few images for you to welcome fall....

We're still moving things over to the new house ~
trying to decide where to place everything.
My studio is going to be downsized by about half :(
But the good thing is I can distribute the items that won't fit
around the house to be used for other purposes.
Plus the overflow of my studio will be in the
guest room, thank goodness!!

I posted this almost two years ago!! And I will always, always love fall.....

Have a wonderful weekend precious friends ~ please stay cool....
hugs and love,
Dawn

Book love....

I can't help myself, I love them!
Books, that is.
But mostly books that inspire my artwork, or in this case
organizing my studio.
I'd like to think I'm organized but in the end,
I don't think I am!
We could always be better, right??

Lisa told me that I would love this one and she was SO RIGHT!
I've taken a ton of pics to share with you,
and yes many are blurry, and not the best
but this is just to show you what's inside
and show you that you will love it too!!!

Enjoy ~

So.
What do you think???
Wonderful, huh????
And this is just a fraction of it...
I still need to sit down and really pour over it ~

Wishing you, my precious friends, a beautiful Thursday!!!!
hugs and love,
Dawn

Honoring the generations ~

I just finished the commissioned piece that I was working on ~
I thought you might like to take a peek!
Emily's mom gave me a few embroidered doilies and two photographs....
each one with four generations of family!!!
I had the most precious hankies that matched,
sweet old flour sack fabric for the back drop,
vintage millinery flowers and
one pretty old button.

I hope Emily's grandmother loves it!!!

I hope you're having a wonderful Wednesday sweet friends,
hugs and love,
Dawn

It's time to create something wonderful!

Well, I think I've just about recovered from the trauma of the yard sale!
That's a good thing!!!
I really need to deep clean my house but
as an artist,
I know in my heart what comes first....
CREATING ART!

Here's a sweet baby for you...

My art calling is a commission piece for my daughter-in-law's mom...
what exactly would she be called?
I guess there's no official name but guess what???
Her name is Dawn too!!! How funny is that?
I'm working on a piece for Dawn to give to her mother (Emily's grandmother) ~
she gave me a few photographs and a couple of embroidered doilies
that her grandmother had made.
The photos have multiple generations which is wonderful ~

I found a beautiful shadow box at Hob Lob
and love that I have some space to
add dimensional elements ~

Dawn requested this verse be used in the piece, isn't it wonderful???
That's baby Clara that Dawn's mom (Emily's grandmother) is holding ~

I'm sharing in-progress photos...there's still much tweaking to be done
and more elements to be added.

Wishing you a beautiful Tuesday my sweet friends!!!
hugs and love,
Dawn

Still recovering ~

The yard sale was a huge SUCCESS!!!
How amazing is it that
you can make almost 400 bucks
on stuff just junkin' up your house????

Thanks so much for cheering me on dear friends ~
The heat was manageable,
but by the time we closed down,
I was red-faced and seriously wilting!!!

And the most wonderful thing?
Our oldest son Brent called about thirty minutes after we closed it down
and said he was heading over with his trailer
to load up anything that was left
and take it straight to the thrift store!!!!
What an angel!!
So we boxed up the small amount that was left and he took it away for us ~

But I have to tell you...I am STILL recovering from this!!!
I don't have anything wonderful and new to show you
but I sure hope that today I can get myself back in the groove ~

Wishing you a wonderful Monday precious friends,
hugs and love,
Dawn

If I wiggle my nose, will it all be over?

My house is a total wreck!
BUT...
Inside the closets and cabinets look wonderful!!

That's the thing about having a yard sale,
you have this limbo period where stuff
is absolutely EVERYWHERE!
It makes me crazy!!!
Oh well, today I'll finish pricing and
Saturday afternoon it will all be over...

I hope you are doing so good ~
have a beautiful Friday precious friends!
hugs and love,
Dawn

Under the bed...

Have you ever had a yard sale?
UGH.
They are A LOT of work...
and yes, you have more money than you started with
but you earn every stinkin' penny!

We're going to have one Saturday morning.
And we just decided this...I've got three days
to get it together ~
we've needed to do this for weeks
but it just seems that lately
every weekend we've been busy.

Of course, Saturday it's going to be the hottest day
in Georgia so far this year.
Yay.
I told hubby I'd be waving at him through the window :)

The pics below (for you) totally depict how I feel....

Flat smile :) fake but trying:

Wish me luck...

Have a wonderful day dear friends ~
If you need me, I'll be under the bed.

Time to tidy up!

So what are you up to this June day?
Me? Well, I'm just getting ready for a visit from my Mom and Dad....
They're dropping by for a quick visit, spending the night and then heading
back up to the North Georgia mountains where they live.

But I have to admit...when I've been making stuff...
I do just enough to get by around here!
I make sure everyone's fed  and that they have clean clothes...
but other than that...I'm in the zone...
lace and thread snippets are all over the studio floor!
And I just forget about the rest of the place....

So, it's time to clean up a little around here at the farmhouse...

I broke down and cut all of my hydrangea blooms.
In the past I've cut them late in the summer then placed them in a vase of water
and waited until the water evaporates, they will slowly dry and turned out beautiful.
But I couldn't wait.
They started to fade a bit...looking like they were on their way out
while they were still on the bush.
So, we'll see.
I love dried hydrangea blooms so much!!

Wishing you a beautiful Tuesday dear friends,
hugs and love

Done and done.

I did it!
I finished the iPhone cases!
Here are a few pics...
The neat thing about these is that I pre-washed all the fabrics,
I even pre-shrunk the inner batting
so when they get a little dirty
they can be tossed in the washer,
dried and pressed good as new!

All are listed in my Etsy too :)

Here are a few "in progress" shots...looking through my wads of lace
to find just the right combination for each case!

Just the right snippets of gorgeous old lace...

Beautiful vintage buttons...

Even vintage nubby barkcloth!

I forgot to show you this little sweetie!!
I made a different kind of lavender sachet...
a wonderful fabric sack!
I filled it with lavender and cinched up the top, tied with seam binding
then finished it off with a gorgeous old button.
It's already sold but I still wanted to share it with you!

Wishing you a wonderful Father's day weekend dear friends,
hugs and love,
Dawn
