For the love of rusty and crusty ~

I'm a little late to the party.
You know, the party of folks that know all about
creating patina and age on things!

Well, you saw that I bought these metal label looking things
at Michael's the other day and they tried to give them
a burnished metal look to them but I wanted a little rust and crust
to go along with that!

FIRST, I used an emery board and sanded the fronts of them,
just in case they had some kind of protective finish.
Then, I took a small plastic sour cream container that I'd washed up
and placed about 1/4 cup of bleach and 1/4 cup of vinegar inside.
STINKY!! Take this outside because it really will take your breath away.
I dropped the four metal frames inside and let them sit a few hours.

Using a plastic fork I fished them out and
placed them on a few layers of paper towels to dry overnight.
That's it!
Here's the transformation:

~ BEFORE ~

Here is the AFTER!

Pretty neat, huh??
Thank you so much sweet friends for telling me about this ~
I Googled it too and there were so many recipes
I just did the half and half thing.

Don't you love it when you get the result you were after???

No baby yet. Little Murray must be pretty comfortable...
his due date is today, September 9th though!
So we wait....
I promise to share news as soon as something happens!!

Wishing you a beautiful, peaceful Sunday precious friends,
hugs and love,
Dawn

OMGOSH! I can't BELIEVE it is that easy to do that! Is that the coolest thing ever to get a rusty look, or what? Ingenious-even if somebody else did it before you...I'm giving you credit cuz I saw it here!;>)

You must be on pins and needles waiting on that baby boy! My dd's birthday is today and her hubby's is tomorrow. You know what that means? I have three littles here for the weekend-...oh yeah...xo Diana

I can't believe how gorgeous they turned out... truly perfect!

But everyone, please be careful!! Mixing bleach and vinegar is actually very dangerous, because the chemical reaction that results produces toxic fumes--similar to the reaction that occurs when bleach and ammonia are mixed (but I think that the latter is even more toxic).

I was going to suggest vinegar on that post, Dawn, but not having tried it myself wasn't sure. They turned out great! Oh gosh, you are going to jump every time the phone rings!

These look great! I have tried lots of receipes too, and vinegar always is one of the best ingredients to use. I have tons of rusty pins and bells laying around now from playing with it. Adddictive for sure! Mix vinegar with steel wool and it makes new wood look old too....ENDLESS fun!
We are all patiently waiting for baby ♥
