Being brave...it's good to try new things!

I had to try these resin baubles because, well, you cheered me on!
I finally decided it is the perfectionist in me that keeps me from trying
new techniques...I just DON'T want to mess up!

I found my supplies and measured the little cavities of my candy mold ~
they were about 1" in diameter. I sized the photos I had chosen in my photo
editing software so the image area I wanted would fit.

I loved the size of the cavities in this candy mold....

I had two boxes of resin (of course) I'm always trying to gather supplies,
using them is another story :)
This is the one I used.....

Here's the other box of resin I had....and come to find out,
they are made by the same company and are the exact same stuff!!!

I filled the cavities until they were almost full, then placed the image face down.
I used a toothpick to poke it down into the resin.

Well, now the waiting begins ~
I have to wait 24 hours for the resin to set.
Can you kind of tell what I dropped inside them?
I made a bit of a mess cramming lace in one...but I figured I try.

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with these sweeties...
but I'm sure I'll think of something!

And since I was feeling quite brave I decided to bleach a few bottle brush trees!!!
Lisa told me Hobby Lobby had these small ones
marked half price this week so I picked up a few bags ~
She also shared her bleaching technique with me......
In batches of threes, I soaked them in solid bleach for about three minutes,
pulled them out with tongs and submerged them into a big bowl of cold water.

Now to decorate them!

One last little thing ~
we have a tiny pecan grove here at the farmhouse and
have had TONS of pecans this year!!!
The boys have gathered a big ol' box full for me.
I found a wonderful pecan sheller on ebay and it arrived this past Saturday!!!
I'm gonna be shelling pecans forever!!!

Wishing you a happy Tuesday precious friends,
hugs and love,
Dawn

There, I knew you could do it! I would love to try, but I don't think the resin is sold here.
The trees are beautiful, looking forward to see the finished results.

Enjoy your day.

Those little resin baubles look like so much fun, I feel like trying them myself! I'm a lot like you, Dawn. I don't want to mess up, so I don't attempt new things. Perfectionism....bah!

Okay, this opens up an entire world of possibilities. I thought that these sorts of things were made by gluing a picture onto the back of a clear glass thingy from the fishtank aisle. Ha! What do I know?! Nothing! I can already tell that they'll be wonderful.

I can't wait to see the finished pieces and what you do with them! I have all the supplies here, but have been equally reticent to start something new. You're always an inspiration, Dawn. Now I'm curious to try it myself. Thanks again!
Happy Tuesday.

I just bleached a big batch of Hobby Lobby trees to make table decorations for my daughter's wedding in Feb. I saw on Pinterest arrangements of canning jars with sugar snow and sparkling pine trees. I thought I'd do a larger jar with a vintage bride and groom in it as well. Brava on trying new things!

It's fun to try new things . . . I remember using Envirotex back in the 70s, when it was a huge crafting rage . . . can't wait to see how these turn out! The bottle brush trees look great--I'll have to try that sometime. They just opened a Hobby Lobby about 35 miles from my home last week! I couldn't believe it--Hob Lobs in California now--woo hoo! And good luck with your new pecan sheller--hope it works great for you . . .

Love them.
after your post, and talking to Lisa, I want to run right out and get 'stuff' to do it.

Of course our Vintage Marketplace at the store is in 2 weeks, and I am already in the middle of 40 lace flowers, and little lacy gift bags. Think I should wait???? Probably. =(
But I want to do it NOW!!!!

hugs and blessings my brave and successful friend.

PS do you have a source for good pics? I keep looking and cannot find any that have several on one sheet. thanks

Oh, I can hardly wait to see how the cabachons come out. I have that same resin. Did you print the pictures with ink jet or take them to the copy shop? It doesn't look like the resin affected the printing at all so I was wondering.

Dear Dawn,
I think the resin baubles would make cute magnets for your fridge or metal memo board? Don't you think?
I love the images you used. I would love to try the resin too! But I would have a hard time staying away from them until they are completely dry! :)
love and hugs,
sonya

YOU DID IT :) I knew you would, I wish I could do this too, but not sure I can get all the right stuff here in Iceland :(

I happened to see resin jewelry molds while at Hobby Lobby tonight and thought of you! They were larger but would probably pop out better. I bought trees at Big Lots and those didn't bleach well, but the ones from Hobby Lobby did. I'll have to head back there for more as I only bought a tiny package. So fun to see what you do!
