Where do you see beauty?

I see beauty in the simplest of things....
Old, aged watch faces ~ the grungier the better.

A recent batch I found....I'm always trying to build up my stash!

An image from an old pattern ~
beautifully old and precious.

I found this image here a long time ago and have always been in love with her.
She's called a Spit Doll....
She is so beautiful to me.

A little doll dress I made then aged....
the aging makes it beautiful.

How about precious old baby shoes...that have been worn out by learning to take new steps.

Stitches on old linens, stained or not ~ they are beautiful to me.
Someone took their time and skill to create them.

When I was younger, everything I loved had to be so perfect to be beautiful.
Now, not so much....
the more aged and distressed something is,
the more I seem to love it!

Wishing you a beautiful Thursday precious friends,
hugs and love,
Dawn

Love these images, Dawn. Do you think she's called a spit doll, because of "spit curls"? Do you remember your mom spiting on her fingers and the making little curls. Doesn't that just sound the absolute grossest? Jog down memory lane, eeeuw...LOL.

Hello dear Dawn-yes I`m back from vacation, and the wedding of my sweet niece-
---Younger-yes-also I would never have had stains on the tablecloths, or a broken pitcher on the shelf..as for now I truly don`t care much for "perfect-and beautiful" in the term of most peoples eyes!
I can only say I totally love everything you showed here, my dearest friend.
LOVE and hugs,
Dorthe

Hi Dawn, I love watch faces too, and you have a great collection of them. The image with the little spit doll is just adorable... as is the baby shoes, sweet little dress, and the image of the old pattern. Hope you have a wonderful Thursday as well.

In my earlier years, everything had to be perfect, but now I find beauty in the not perfect. The stained, distressed and worn. What lovely treasures you have.

Have a great day.

Oh, yes, Dawn! I am a lover of those old worn things that retain the marks of life lived in another time - another place, perhaps. Hoping to wallow in it today at an Antiques Mall in Newport RI while visiting my grandbaby. Hope I find a treasure from time to share soon!
Now, I must know more about your "spit doll" - she is sweet! Appeared to be 1920's. What is the significance of the name? Thanks for sharing your treasures - the real old and the looks like real old!
Joy!

Thank you picturs!
I think as you: beautiful, postponed the time trace of an object, a dress .....
Nice to see the embroidery, hand embroidered by one of the two.

Now I want that spit doll - wow - she is exactly what I've been looking for. I've never seen one before.

This is exactly how I feel, too. The older the better. Aged with time and reflecting character.

I so agree with you about how the more things are aged and distressed the more beautiful they are. I often imagine who might have used or worn the item and what their life must have been like.

I agree. I love when something shows its age. Love these images. Just found a great site that sells old warehouse millinery feathers. Posted a link.

I love vintage patterns, I have so many that I want to scan so they can be saved for the future. I love old embroidered linens too, and gloves, I find old gloves so charming!

i love to hold or touch the treasure and think about the person using it, and how much it was loved to have been used so much.

I've just stumbled upon your blog and just had to say how much I've enjoyed going through it! I've always had a love for old things, but my interest has grown even more since we bought our early 1900's Arts & Crafts home this year. We're working on restoring it to its original state from polishing the original hardware, to restoring the beautiful wood floors. I've been looking more and more at the artwork of that time period and have come to appreciate its charm even more! I guess what I'm saying is, you are very inspiring! =)
