The tale of one hot mama ~

It's funny how we take things for granted, isn't it?
The week was going along wonderfully and then all of a sudden
Monday evening, as I was cooking dinner, the house seemed a little warm.

Well, I thought, GREAT.
Another hot flash, and while I'm cooking too!!

The hubs walks in from work and says, it sure is warm in here....
I think, well, finally, it's not just me!
I look at the thermostat...80 DEGREES!

Well, if you know me at all, you know I can't handle anything over 75.
This old farm house was starting to cook, and I'm not talking dinner here.

This is the look (below) I gave my DH.
You have GOT to be kidding me.
It's a quarter after five ~ oh yeah, right after closin' time,
and we make the dreaded call, nothing...until the next day.

See the expression on this poor woman's face below?
This is how I felt by bedtime....
UGH.
I love sleeping cool, don't you?
There's so much we take for granted.....

A few magazine pages from my "love" files ~

A wonderful sign maker's studio...

Can I please have all this bee stuff?
Isn't it beautifully displayed?

By Tuesday afternoon the house was cool again ~
How did I feel?
take a look below,
the little girl's expression says it all!

Today, I found myself stopping every now and then
being a very thankful girl for our air conditioned home...
.
Tryin' to keep cool in the steamy South!
hugs and love sweet friends,
Dawn

I'm so jealous that you have AC! Our room is in the attic and we haven't saved up quite enough after bills are paid to get a new window unit. In fact, the window had to be replaced before any of that and it's only been in 3 weeks, so ... Anyway, we'll get there. In the meantime, I work downstairs and at night when I HAVE to come up here, I have the cool(er) night air coming in the open windows, and 2 box fans blowing, so it's not that bad at all. :) Stay cool in this hot summer weather!

Love,
Jenny

Oh goodness! While I have to admit I'm a bit stingy with my A/C I can't imagine it going out all together. Hope you sleep well tonight :)

You sometimes wonder how people dealt with it years ago, although I've read we have hotter Summers now than in the past. Just be thankful we don't wear dresses like that anymore, Dawn!

Sorry about the hot air. My husband is the A/C guy for the Hospital and nearly every day after work he has had to stop off at a co-workers home to fix the A/C for them. Every July nearly every person he has ever met calls....

So cute to complement your tale with the expressions on these vintage photographs. To think that I've just been using key strokes. =/
:D There is nothing like good old AC to make things more tolerable.

I am another one who just can't take the heat... I wish so much I could but I just can't... It has been a ery difficult summer and I have been in tears a couple times from becoming so miserable.... Gald all is well with the AC. We have had 2 days of break from the terrible 90"s and 100's however but back to it this weekend... UGH...

Loved your "tale" and the illustrations were inspired! I love old things . . . and count me in with you on your "love file" choices, too. I have a teeny tiny bee thing collection. Nothing to boast about - but there is a nifty antique smoker pot with leather bellows I'm pretty much thinkin' is the bee's knees!
Joy!

So glad you have gotten your AC fixed now Dawn!! Hot days are no fun. Our big window unit is on the fritz (doesn't owe us one thing since it has worked great for over 12 years!) and we are using a smaller one now, but I too am stingy with my AC...really drives up the electric bill. ugh!
Love the photos!!
Blessings~

Oh dear Dawn, I am sorry the air went out but happy you got it back! I can deal with heat at times BUT NOT when I am sleeping! I like it cool, fan blowing and lots of covers:)

Enjoy your COOL day my friend, HUGS!

I live in the ridiculous hot Arizona desert, I know how grateful I am for air! We've been without for hours before and it is not pretty.

I did laugh at your post, though. You put it together so well with your antique faces, too cute.

Aren't we blessed to be born and living in this particular day and age where there IS AC available to us!!!??? I cannot imagine what we'd do without it now...probably have more money and live longer!! SO glad you're back to having cool air.
By the way, I've just done a post where I made a dress form using some graphics that I think I got from your blog. Just wanted to give credit where it was due!!
Love your blog!

Glad your cool again! Our air went out about a month ago before it was really, really hot! Funny thing was our RV was at the dealer getting some kinks work out! After a couple of days I started to get nervous. But we finally got it fixed!

Thank goodness you are cool and calm now. The heat and humidity can certainly zap us of our strength and creativity and we CANNOT have that happen. Cool Sunshine Summer Smiles to you...

Okay, I just have to comment on those two photos....one with all the bee stuff and the other of the sign maker studio...I am ready to crawl into the computer screen and just take over those pages and move right in!

Thanks for sharing...I am just AMAZED at all that you do!!! You are just the bee's knee's now aren't you? I have been in a cave or something...when I see your side bar and all that you have been in....maybe because I don't really have the talent to do craft, so I don't get on the craft blogs too much, but your blog is just too much...I just love your art and I am really picky about this stuff. I am so happy you stopped by so I could visit with you. Again, I am so happy for all your success - your talent is just amazing! Thank you for sharing your gifts I so enjoyed visiting your blog...I will be back soon!

Big hug
Elizabeth :-)

Ok girl, first off, what were you doin' cooking dinner in that heat in the first place! My husband would have come home, found me sitting in a bathtub of cold water telling him to call for take out....I've been to the midwest and immediately came down with prickly heat....never went back! Nevada 120 degrees is the hottest I've ever seen. 1 week of eating nothing but watermelon and I went home swimming in my clothes I'd lost so much weight! My heart goes out to you! Next time, get on a plane and come here to Victoria, B.C. where I actually got out my wool socks this week, as our floors are cold...60 degrees in my backyard yesterday, at 2 in the afternoon, no summer here this year! And I'm not complaining! Your vintage pictures are fantastic quality! And I'd love the hat that is hanging above the 'bee thing', with the feather! I love your postings!
Stay cool girlfriend!
Cheers!

I think with age we learn to be thankful. Imagine living by your self (empty nest) and having poison ivy on both hands, arms, eye and on scalp. Talk about being THANKFUL. . . . . when poison ivy blisters (size of grapes) went away. . Every day I am so glad I get up to see what you have given us to work with today. . . . . . . . .

had that happen before not fun sure does make us appreciate the things we take for granted all the time. i can stand the heat but not the humidity. but with the LORD we can find a way to survive. i liked what you said about camping out in the frozen food section at the local grocery store. lol or walley world. love ya. take care of yourself...

Hi Dawn, Love the pictures! I imagine you must need air conditioning there! I don't do well with the heat either. It has been cool and breezy here quite a bit this summer, but when the humidity comes on, I slow down like a slug. I can't justify buying an AC just for those days, when the rest of the time is pretty comfortable in my funny old apartment. I often take my little kayak out for a ride in the hot days, and take a dip while I'm at it. Have a great day!
Hugs,
Sherry
