The precious gift of time ~

I've come to realize something as I'm getting older....
that time is the most wonderful gift to give.
I'm quite selfish with my time, I'll admit it.
I do not want to spend time doing something that I do not want to do.
PERIOD.
With raising five boys and working full time in the past,
now I tend to be quite stingy with my time.
I do not over-commit....as a matter of fact,
I even UNDER commit,
so I will always have the option to do as I please,
to create or whatever.

I was a little worried about committing to keeping baby Clara
for two days a week for Brent and Emily.
(remember I'm stingy)
But after today, I've realized something ~
After keeping my precious granddaughter, Clara
so her mother could work a little and help out at the soap shop...
I realized that our time spent together,
one-on-one
was absolutely wonderful!!
She has such a relaxed disposition and I am pretty laid-back myself ~
so we just meshed beautifully!!!
And as the day went on, I realized that this time spent with Clara
was like gold.
It was as if I was investing a little gold into our relationship.

Life lessons, huh??

BTW, my little peat pot babe is now in the shoppe....
I've decided on a different design for the BH show!

Wishing you a most wonderful Wednesday precious friends,
hugs and love,
Dawn

Your right girlfriend....us over achievers are really hard pressed to relenquish our time.
I think of my precious grandmother almost daily ...and all she taught me and the time it took to do it.
She was my biggest cheerleader...my teacher, my example of all that was good and what I've strived to accomplish as a woman.
When I think of how Clara will remember you...( the most talented of Grandmothers)...it is priceless.
Everytime she sees a bird...nest, vintage anything...paper, scissors, crayons,....whatever you've taught her to use , her heart will smile as she remembers how much her Grammy loved her because....
you spent time with her.
Clara is Gods gift to you...
You are Gods gift to Clara...
precious.

ps. wouldn't little Claras face look cute in your pot!

Awww Dawn amor, what precious times and memories you will build with bebe Clara....and when she is older...she will remember...through pictures, your stories and who knows, maybe through her own lil memories...after all we don't truly know how much they comprehend and at what age...so...as she sleeps and you watch her and hear her beautiful breaths...know she loves you just as much as you love her...course you realize one day you will be her world right? Granmas tend to be that to lil ones :) I know mine was even as an adult :) Besos, Rose

ps..I am so happy Emily gets to have some me time to work and get out...I think all mommies need that sometime :)

Hey Sweetie,
I love what Kathy & Rose said. It is so true. Miss Clara will always have a special place in her heart for anything creamy, sepia, & touched my nature. One day you'll pass on to her your favorite old readers, wonderful cabinet cards & treasure filled sewing box. She'll share them, along with her special memories with her own sweet children. That's how it works. And like Rose said, it's so generous of you to give Emily the time to contribute to the business & do something for herself too. Lisa

My Granddaughter Kayla was with me a lot during the first 5 years of her life. It was so special to have her. We crafted together from about the age 2 on, she made her first heart with me guiding her. And believe me it goes by fast, so I think this will be a wonderful time. I do know what you mean, I love my free time, I like my own space and time too.
Have fun, she will love you even more for this time together.
Love You Dear Dawn, Mary

I have learned NOT to commit to much either.
How wonderful that you are creating such a great bond with Clara. Truly a blessing.

Dawn, you're giving Clara such wonderful things that only a Gramma can give. And a relationship that she will always, always, always hold dear to her heart! Having lost both of my Grammas at an early age (I was tiny when 1 passed away and my other Gramma died when my father was only 14), I know how special that relationship is and how I missed all of that unconditional love. You two are bonding now and she's learning to be ANOTHER creative woman! What a beautiful example of a Gramma you are! She already knows it!

Warm hugs, Gramma!
Diane

PS: I'm stingy with my time too and under commit. Choosing carefully - we owe ourselves that respect. Good for you!

You are so right..isnt it wonderful that you are getting precious time with her?I take care of my 2yr old granddaughter 4 days a wk and we are doing so much together. We are watching quail outside..it is amazing what she is now learning.I am so close with her that I am a third parent. I had to grandmothers growing up. One kind of poor and another that I have handmade doll clothes, beautiful gifts. The one I feel I was close with was the poor one. Time was given..although circumstances was involved with the other. Her son my uncle was down syndome and she lived 8miles away..well Ive rambled. You are going to have so much fun with her. Those Peat pots are adorable. Have you put Claras picture in one for an angel? sally

Dear Dawn, I'd rather be with a child than with any adult. You can see them discover things for the first time and share in the pure joy and fun of life. Clara is so blessed to have a Grandma that is willing to share her precious time. It's the best gift you'll ever give her, and one she'll never forget. Love, Penny

More of us need to take this stance - under and not overcommit. I do not have grands yet (girls are 14 & 16) and when the time comes, I'll be ready to spend some time with 'em. =)

Grandchildren are an amazing gift from God! I would not give a second of my time up for anything else. I am a single hard working woman with so much to do my head spins sometimes.Being with my amazing grandson is like my vacation.I dont get to do anything else but be with him.I am completely tired at the end of the day,and thats when he goes home. The time we have together has made us such a tight bond that is harder to form when they get bigger.Clara has such an adorable face and smile.Once you get used to a toddler schedule you will be even stingier with your time with her! Congratulations on all your wonderful, heart filled with love times in front of you!

Dawn, you are so right! Treasure those little disruptions to usual life, those are the ones that you will remember. My grandaughter Carli is going to be five on the 18th and I love it when she and I can find a day or just a few hours of togetherness ~ she loves to shop and is a girlie girl and when she comes to my shop she wants everything! I just love hearing her speak and love hearing her say ~ Mimi, this is pretty, can I have it? The best years are yet to come, I'm sure of it!

Dawn.....You are so right, I have a 7 year old grandson and I have been fortunate enough to spend a great deal of time with him. I would not change that for the world!!! He has shown me how to be a child again, and to be delighted with everyday things.

Sweet Dawn,
thats the good thing about getting older, prising other things high, than we did before,--and what better time spend, than the one with our small loved ones,-even it does not leave us time for creating, being with them, it just gives the best here on earth---:LOVE---
I hope you will show us the new pea pot you will design for your your show,-
I`m sure it will be as sweet as the one here.
Sweet fiend, love and hugs--Dorthe

Dawn, I love your peat pot babe! So sweet, and I keep wondering about the potential of peat pots...Hmmm...

Spending time with your Clara will be one of your best memories later in life. I've been babysitter & part time mom for my sweet niece Diana for 15 years and it is the best thing that happened to me. I never had my own kids, so she is my kid! Our time together is so memorable, even if it's just a few minutes. It seems like 15 years only took 5! (That makes me sound old, doesn't it?) Enjoy!

I can so appreciate being stingy with time - guilty as well. But I find that I end up giving it away to help others and am always rewarded with precious gifts of memories in return. It's a trade off certainly but oh so worth it. I'm glad that you've found this with beautiful little Clara. Oh the memories you two will have...

Hugs,

"Her" and Romeo

Dawn, I have always been an overachiever, too and now I am realizing that I can't do it all. PRIORITIES!!! I never had grandparents around when I was growing up, so I have spent much, much precious time with 3 yr old grandson. And now, there is his 9 month old little sister and although, it is physically hard on this old body, it is so worth it!
Congratulations on your realization!
