Of sage and sepia ~ and a giveaway...

Image to you from me (and Mary too!)

Sage and sepia.
Isn't that a wonderful color combination?
The colors of nature....my very favorites.

This time of year I always love to pull out my old Victoria magazines
and look through them. They are as timeless as ever!!
Beautiful photography, beautiful writing ~
they always captured Autumn
in all it's glory!

If I could have a designer come to my home....
and have an unlimited budget :)....
who would that be?
My pick would have to be Carol Hicks Bolton ~
Her style and taste are so beautiful to me....

I ran across an old issue of Victoria with a feature on her and had to share.
She decorated a little building on her property, and I can remember
just staring and studying the photographs and loving it all ~
She's an amazing furniture designer, which you can see HERE...
I love the less frou frou styles of her furniture and
also love the vintage feel of it ~

These photos are from another vintage issue of Victoria ~
They're not Carol's design but a hotel I believe....
I just love the "look"

I LOVE the text in the door insets!!!

Thank you Dawn for sharing my giveaway. I remember this issue well with Carol Hicks Bolton, and I am definitely also a fan. I can't remember how many years ago it was, but a friend and I flew to Texas for a weekend rug-hooking class nearby, and I was able to visit her shops in Fredericksburg. Everything was so beautiful, I wanted to take it all home with me! I have an article from 1997, from Country Gardens Magazine. Has there been anything recently? Just curious.
Well thanks again, you are too sweet...

So nice Dawn. I love those colors too. There's such a coziness about those rooms. How wonderful to have past issues. It's so fun to look at those.

I was looking thru some old Victoria magazines just yesterday and thinking how for the most part the decorating was timeless. Except for the advertisements you would not think they were from a 20 year old copy! I love her designs as well, and remember that copy. Still love it.

Hi Dawn,
When I came over to browse your blog tonight, I was so surprised to read that you had just reread this feature on Carol Hicks Bolton. I had gotten all my Fall issues of Victoria out last night and had just read this article as well. I was thinking as I was reading it that she has to still be my favorite decorator. Did you ever see how her mother had decorated her little cottage? Well that has always been such an inspiration to me. You are so right about the issues of Victoria in the Fall. They have got to be my favorite ones. Always put me in a festive mood.
Hugs,
June

Awesome, I know Carol Hicks Bolton, and Tim too!
I just live 20 miles from their awesome Homestead store in Fredericksburg, and my beloved couch Babette is a CHB original. Please, if you haven't seen the Bolton's work up close and personal, run, don't walk. All the pretty pictures in the world simply can't do it justice.
Thanks for posting this, Dawn!

I adore Carol's design style too. I have this issue too and in the fourth photo I love the grouping of old framed picture hung from jute is a tumbling fashion. I have collected a few that I want to hang in this manner. As always, thanks for sharing beautiful inspiration!

Dawn, you would have loved Carol Hicks Bolton's stores in Fredericksburg TX. She still has one but, that is all. She used to have 5 & what a mind blowing experience to walk through & see what she had done. I would go there 2 or 3 times a year & was always so taken back with her creativity. YOU WOULD HAVE LOVED IT!

Yes, I miss the old Victoria too. The new one is a good magazine but, it's still not the same. I have the entire collection of the old. Sometimes I think "you ought to sell those & clear out that room on the shelf" but, I CAN'T DO IT! They are just like family!

Dawn, you are not going to believe it. I just cleaned out my basement storage area and found a big box full of old Victoria and Victorian Home magazines! I was going to flip through them, but then did not want to throw them away, but none of my friends like that style. I think they are from early 2000's. Do you want me to set them aside for you and someday when we meet in person, I will give them to you? They are much too heavy to mail, but I'd love to find them a good home. QueenMarcy

Birds of a feather do truely flock together! I have every issue of Victoria since I graduated high school, picture about 20 years, a big pile! When they stopped publishing I was broken hearted, thankfully they are back and with that same great feel. I love sitting in my favorite wicker rocker with an old tattered quilt, a cup of tea and past issues of Victoria!

Oh, I remember these articles! I, too, have kept all of my old Victoria magazines--I had many other magazines like Country Living stashed in boxes and boxes, but my husband complained, and so I gave those away--I told him I'd never part with my Victorias or my Mary Engelbreits, though!

Dawn,
I hate to sound redundant but....I also have an art crush on CBH. I even made my husband drive by her farmhouse when she lived in Fredricksberg. What a stalker! Her sisters home was also in CL and they had old suitcase pockets hung on the wall with stuff in them. I ran through the house with scissors cutting all of mine apart! Lisa

I too have loved Carol Hicks Bolton for years. I've missed seeing her in magazines anymore. I think I've kept every article written about her and her family. I LOVED her mother's cottage. I will never forget her salt shaker collection. Anyway, if I had time, I'd do some looking for all those articles. I'm sure I have them. . . somewhere. . .
