I love making things ~

Remember the shells I found? They've been transformed!! I usually don't make duplicate items....I'm a one-of-a-kind girl.....but after finding the shells I knew it was what they must be.
Each adorned with snippets of lace, little pearls and other trinkets.
For sale now in my Feathered Nest Shoppe!

I've been very blessed to be able to have my studio in our large two-car garage. And you KNOW I love gathering LOTS of things to build my stash. Well, the problem with having tons of space and tons of stuff is remembering where in the world you've put everything! Especially since I love sewing, collage, assemblage, paperclay...and so many other things ~

I've been thinking....I need a bit of a system ~ something that helps me remember it all, what I have, where it is, so when that idea hits me....I can find what I need!!!

What about an index? Sort of like the library has but on a smaller scale ~ I have this little note book filled with index cards. I'm going to place alphabetical tabs on and jot down where things are located in my studio ~ seam binding would be listed under "S" and so on. My mind is just not as good as it used to be!!!

I hope your Friday is just wonderful sweet friends ~
hugs and love,
Dawn

I love the image on the index file and I've made a few things to sell and keep for myself using it. I got it from a collage sheet by magymai711 on Etsy if anyone is interested. The shells are a great idea and are very beautiful.

I LOVE the teesny file card notebook and what a great "organizing for older brains" idea! May I ask where you found such a little binder?

Hi Dawn

I always love visiting with you, you are sooo creative. What a great idea for your "library," I might have to become a "copy-cat!"

Enjoy your weekend!

I have had this problem for a LONG TIME! My friends made fun of me with my "organization" fixation. But, it's the only way I can somewhat keep a grasp on my stuff. I have so much. And I stash some here & some there. When it comes creating time... I spend more time hunting than creating. Or I re-buy things because I don't remember what I have or don't have. Good luck with that project. Sometimes I do better at organizing than others.

Dawn, The pearl touches on the seashells were just meant to be..they belonged together. Also, the index card file is so perfect. I could even see adding little bitty thumbnail photos of things that might be hard to describe. I hope you'll update us when you get it up and running and report how it's working.

Hi Dawn,
Your shells are sooo pretty!!! I love how you've embellished these.
I think I need a system like yours, last night I spent 15 minutes trying to find my favorite pair of tiny scissors, so that I could make a 5 minute project! Not very efficient!

Dawn those pin cushions came out just gorgeous :) I am ever sooo lucky to have your first creation, I just need to figure out how to attach the embelishments to the acrylic display case, I am worried the glues will be too noticeable and turn yellow..yuk and the embelishments are metal...any ideas lovey? Also like we talked about..I do love your storage and index idea...I think it is beyond wonderful..but I need something lovely to store it in..where do I get index cards like yours :) I have never seen those before..inquiring minds want to know (ok..ok I wanna know :) Rose

Dawn,

Your post made me chuckle. I have a much smaller space than you do and I have the same problem. I have tried to label most of the containers but I also have a lot of little boxes and such that I forget where I tucked things. One thing that has helped me a lot is to reorganize everything into zones. All painting supplies in one area, all scrapbooking/paper type things in one area, sewing in another, etc. It is is the smalls I have a hard time remembering where I put. I may borrow this idea if you don't mind.

The shell pin cushions turned out beautifully!

Hi Dawn,
I keep saying I will post my studio space but I only show sections because I just can't get it organized enough for my photo shoot... Just when I get things cleaned up and put away, I end up dragging in another stash of "must haves" and it starts all over again. I also tend to run out and buy things I know I have somewhere, but where?
I began with everything at home, then moved it to a "real" studio space at the shop and in turn carry a portable studio, (vintage luggage chucked full) home with me almost every night, just in case I might get a chance to create...To make a long story short I just purchased the cutest mini files at the dollar store; black and white polka dot and plaid, spray painted a vintage metal index file pink which these cutie pie files fit into and I was planning to do the same type of thing. Thanks for listening and understanding. Love the shells by the way.
Thank you for constantly inspiring new ideas,
Erica

Dawn I LOVE this idea. Yes I have binders and all for keeping notes but wherever did you find a small one? Is it a photo book? Love it.
