A peek ~

These luggage pocket trays are such a simple idea ~ a beautiful backdrop, a gathered pocket, and an ever-changing gathering of whatever your heart desires!! The vanilla tray below is soon to be featured with another piece of artwork in the next Somerset Studio magazine coming out Nov. 1st . . .

I ended up hanging this one in my living room. Sometimes it's good to keep some of our own artwork. I was finding that I had nothing I had made ~ selling each and every piece as I completed it. It's nice to have this one here :)

I'm constantly amazing at the flying time. Is it my age? The days are also getting much shorter here in Georgia. Dark in the morning and it's getting darker earlier in the evening, a sure sign of fall. I find that it makes for a cozy home though. I love soft lighting and lamps. So turning them on creates beautiful shadows around, turning our house into a haven ~ I also love to light a scented candle to fill the house with a wonderful aroma and as everyone returns home from their busy day the atmosphere welcomes them in.

I hope you have a great Friday sweet friends,

xxoo, Dawn

Dawn, we lose our sunshine every day in the winter at 3 pm because we live on the north side of a hill, the sun setting on the southwestern side. I also love turning on the lamps. They do make the rooms look warm and inviting, don't they.

I just love, love your trays! Such a special idea. And you can change them with the season or occasion! You are so clever, girl! You must drink lots of coffee to have so much energy! ;-)

You continue to inspire me and many others every day. God bless you for using your creativity in such a sweet and generous way.

LOVE THE POCKETS! And yes my friend remember to keep some of your special art. Did you know that Norman Rockwell was a mentor to Thomas Kincaid & one of the 1st lessons he taught him was to keep many pieces of his art because Rockwell told him that as an old artist looking back he had little original work for himself or his family. Remember that your art is part of your Legacy! Mimi... those little angels will marvel at this in the future! Have a wonderful weekend.

This has gotten my gears turning...

Dawn, each one of these evokes such feelings of warmth and comfort. I am so glad that you are displaying one in your own living room where, I am sure, it looks perfect.

Thank you for the tender and gentle message. Gosh, we all need some comforting these days.

You are always such an inspiration and a bright spot in my day. That scripture is so perfect! I've been seeking refuge and solitude most of this week. Life just gets away from us sometimes.

The trays are so lovely! I will have to search through my old suitcases now! It is such a great way to display keepsakes and treasures!

Blessings on you!

You are so creative . . . I bought a hymnal from Goodwill today . . . hmmmm I have old suitcases in the attic that I have not wanted to get rid of, but did not know what to do with them either. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love the verse above too . . .

May your weekend be wonderful!

You're ideas are endless. I love the new creation. I just got a shipment from ebay. I bid on 6 sets of baby shoes and got them for a steal. $10.00 Plus 6 shipping. I'm going to try your baby shoe idea. I think I'm going to get your tutorial. I am doing a craft show. I haven't done one in years but my son's school asked me and with my husband out of work I thought it might be great for some Christmas money. I hope you have a blessed weekend! Sherry

I had to stop by to tell you that I thought of you today when I was in Walmart. In the Martha Stewart line she sells there now, she has these cute little blue gift tags w/ black birds on them....looks like something straight off your blog. In my store, it's near the party invitations section.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! (That's a delighted squeal, by the way.) I LOVE this idea so very, very much! Lady, you are no less than amazing. I love your creative reuse of old pockets, I love how the finished art looks. I really love the nostalgia inherent in this project. I took one look at those pictures and I could smell that scent peculiar to old Samsonite luggage. I don't mean the old musty smell. The other one. You know. The smell of the luggage itself. Do you know what I mean? Anyway, you are wonderful - as usual.

And, congratulations on being featured in Sommerset publications again.

The trays are so lovely! I love the Scripture verse at the end of your post. On a particularly tough day I was sitting outside on the porch of my writing cottage with my bible open in my lap. I was really needing to feel the Lord's nearness. The wind ruffled the pages, turning them to the page of your quote. As my eyes scanned the page another gust of wind blew a single blue jay feather at my feet. It landed on top of my shoe. It was visual of His protective covering that touched my heart deeply. I picked up the feather and it remains tucked in my bible marking this Scripture.

I love how your post reflects this verse of making our homes into a refuge and a haven for our families. Your nest is feathered with art and heart beauty. Thanks for sharing a bit of your haven.

Hey friend - I love these trays soo much - where do you find the perfect pockets? I TOTALLY think you need to keep pieces for yourself. When I was a single mom with 4 babies, I sold my paintings and now I only have a few - yes I can (and should ) do more, but I didn't even have the money at the time to take photos - and no digital camerss 30 years ago!

Hi Dawn. Just browsing your sight tonight. You have so many beautiful creations. I'm just amazed. It's almost like seeing your work for the first time. It all takes my breath away. I just love this scripture verse. I wanted to ask if you'd mind me putting it on my side bar? If it is okay do I have to reduce the size first?

Hugs...Tracy

P.S. Today/tonight has been a poor me one. This verse means more to me than you can imagine. I think God directs us at times and he directed me here to find this. It's my sudo anniversary - 21 foolish years and I've been snubbed and am hurting. Sorry to lay it all on you but I just want you to know your sweetness and kindness is very appreciate, by I'm sure so many more than me. You make me feel cared about when I otherwise don't with all your sweet comments to me. Don't I sound terribly desperate? That's terrible, no-one wants to be around desperate. Neil's Mother who has dementia and is 89 has been here for nearly 2 years and sometimes I feel a little ganged up on. I shouldn't be doing this but thank you for letting me vent.

Hugs...Tracy
