My babies are gone... :(

I went outside today thinking I need to get a picture of how big the baby cardinals are ~ with their eyes open, too! I opened my step stool and stood up over top of the large boxwood bush and this is what I found!! No babies, no shells, nothing! I guess I didn't realize how fast they grow and leave the nest. Oh well, I enjoyed watching them and am so very thankful for this beautiful piece of artwork they left behind. What handiwork!!

Are you surprised it's Friday? The weeks are just flying by at break-neck speed to me! I'm finally finished with my big project to mail off!!! Now I have to get ready for a BIG yard sale that we're having in about a week . . . oh dear . . .

Wishing you a very Happy Friday!! xxoo, Dawn

Keep an eye out, and you'll likely see Daddy Cardinal herding a young one or two around on the ground, teaching it/them to hunt for food. He'll continue feeding them on the ground for awhile.

The daddy tends to the new babies while Mama goes off and starts building a new nest to get ready for the next brood. Ugh. I'm glad I'm not a Cardinal! ;-Þ

Sorry you missed the babies. We put up a birdhouse and had a Titmouse for several years. This year we have a type of flycather, with Mom and Dad both sitting on the fence watching. Today I think I saw a baby head thru the hole. I am afraid I will miss them. Nice to be back to your blog. Great pictures.

What a shame you missed them leaving.

Hi Dawn! Do you do something to the nest to get rid of ticks and things to be able to put it in the house?

Hugs ~

Hi Dawn,

Not unlike our children, the birds grow so fast. What a wonderful nest they left behind to cherish. Enjoy.

Hi Dawn,
Thanks for your sweet comment. I am a little camera shy so hesitated putting those on there.
I see that sweet little calling card has found a good home. It is just lovely in the bird cage. Have a wonderful weekend organizing!

Human hands couldn't make something so beautiful :) I'm so glad that you kept it! You wouldn't believe what I see birds caring through the city to make their nests out of...

That is about the prettiest bird nest I've seen. We have found two, but they are not that pretty!

Once years ago, when we were living in North Carolina, we watched a baby bird, newly fallen from its nest, helped along on the ground for days, as it's mother or father fed and kept an eye on it. When it was finally learning to fly and was out in the open, a huge hawk flew down and grabbed the birdie and flew off with it. All the birds in all the trees were squeaking and squawking. I cried for that little birdie.

Thanks for stopping by and for the encouragement about my new blog! Means a lot! I am having fun now.

Good luck with the yardsale. We are having one tomorrow, unless I can somehow get out of it! :)

Hi Dawn, it sure doesn't take them long to leave the nest. They sure left you something great to keep. Perfect for the birdcage. Thank you so much for the post on the apron. I owe a lot of people signing up to you.
Have a Blessed Day,
Bonnie

Oh, how lovely. We now have a nest on the front door floral arrangement, just like last year. If you want, I can email a photo of the first two babies with about three scrawny feathers apiece; so cute!

I had a garage sale for the past two saturdays; much work, but well worth the effort! Have a great sale! Love always, linda

Too bad you missed them! But I scrolled down and got to see their wide open little selvesin a previous post.

There is something about that picture of the nest in the birdcage...

I like it.

It is thought provoking somehow...

Might I use it in a post or something? I'm not sure what, but it stirs something...

I will come back and see if you say "yes"

Thank you for permission to use that photo. I'm not sure how, but there is something metaphorical about it...

A nest is a symbol of nurturing, sacrifice for the next generation, a promise of freedom... an empty nest is a symbol of that promise fulfilled... An empty nest in a cage... something about it...

I will let you know when I use it so you can see what came of it.

Thank you for your visit to my blog and your very kind words about the post.

I like that the photo is so large when I click on it... gives me a lot of detail.

I'm an artist (generally my art forms prayers) and... I don't know...I like the photo.

Thanks again.

Dawn... I thought I saw the artistic touch in the photos.

I grew up around art... my mom... My father didn't value it so much.

If you are interested, I have posted some of my pictures on a bog for that purpose.

Most of my art takes months to do... tiny lettering done with fine point sharpies on a wall... usually about six feet square or so. The words are prayers and passages from scripture... the colors and the variations of spacing and size of the letters creates an image.

The acrylic painting of the infant messiah... the model was my son who died of SIDS in 2002.

I blather...

What a beautiful bird nest! We don't have cardinals in my part of the country, but they must be fantastic housekeepers (wish I had a man like that birdy husband!) to leave their nest so neat and clean. All the bird nests I find are so filthy I would haven't it in my house! *LOL*
