If one nest is good ~ four nests are GREAT!!

Well, with a name like The Feathered Nest you can pretty much tell that I love birds, nests and eggs! A few days ago, Julie of Red Hen Studios emailed me and said she had a few nests she and her sons had found and would I like to have them? Why YES!! I was fully intending on using them in my artwork. Right.

Julie's package arrived today. With these beauties tucked inside plus a children's book full of the sweetest illustrations of birds, loose pages to use in my art from another old book, envelopes and even tiny sheet music! As a special bonus, she included a small drawstring bag full of garnet that she and her sons mined themselves. How wonderful is that??

Julie, it's all just so special to me. I came across a box of speckled eggs as I was cleaning my art room today so each nest had to have a few. I tucked them inside the wooden tray in the photo and now the entire display sits inside of our set of glass doored bookshelves. Thank you so very much, Julie ~ I'll have a special package off to you very soon :)

Hey I just found a little nest this morning. It made me sooo happy. It is such a beautiful creation. I found it on a path and guess it fell from the trees above. No eggs or little birds were near so hopefully thats a sign they had left the nest already. (Its summer here). Isnt nature and her creations amazing?!

I always find beauty whenever I stop by. But this lot, outdid everything for me. I am moved to tears, can you imagine? Do you think you will have the heart to put any of this for sale?

A wonderful gift...

I just love all the nests in the tray,
perfect.

Years ago I found a nest in a tree just outside of my
garage. The nest was abundantly lined in white fluffy hair form my great Pyrenees
dog.
Those baby birds must have been very cozy . I wish I saved that nest.

I'm so glad you like them Dawn. Doesn't the deep one look kind of like a heart? It was built in the crook of a tree.

I'm so happy you can display them. In my house, they sat in a closed box up on top of the piano because my boys played with them too much.

Dawn - how wonderful are they !!
It gives us such pleasure as we
behold God's plan to give all his creatures their homes -- I am thankful to the person who sent these your way and the delight you have in them and have now passed on and shared wih us . There is such a simple beauty in these objects . They tell a story about Gods love for us - as the birds have their nest we can snuggle into the nest of God's love for us
He is always there, our home our place of security , Thank you for this reminder this day -- Kathy - GA

Dawn, what a great friend to share her sweet nests and other goodies with you. You have certainly made them look so pretty in the wooden tray - I must do something with a couple I kept from the wrens last year. I just know your creative spirit is in overdrive designing more luscious artwork with the illustrations!

Thanks for stopping by and your kind words - you are a special lady.

O be still my heart. You are SUCH a lucky girl to have friends that send you these things (and I am not one of them lol) (sorry). For the record though - you've displayed them beautifully - I love your photos , and thank you so much for sharing. I have a hard time finding a feather , let alone a nest , so it's nice to be able to live through you!

I had to smile about your love of nests - I collect all the nests that I can find around the place and recently I needed 1/2 a nest for a piece of artwork, so I cut a damaged nest in half and because I needed it to keep its shape, I drizzled on some watered down glue and put it in the oven to bake and harden a bit! Then I rang my mother to say that I would be the only person in our small town to have a birds nest baking in the oven LOL!
I love your blog, it is the first I check out every morning with a coffee.
Thank you
Christina

These are so amazing!! I always think bird nests are so intricate and of course they are all so different given the species. I swear that I may have to start a collection even though it won't fit my decor!! Toodles..>Angie
