Corners of my home ~

OK, if you are the type of decorator that loves the sparse, minimalistic look ~ you might should look away now . . . the pictures are a little dark but I thought I'd share a few photos of my living room. This is a nook next to the fireplace that I've put a buffet in. Our collection of clocks is on top and it's getting quite full!

The wardrobe below is from my husband's family and it is so beautiful! I know, you're not supposed to put a wardrobe in the living room but I had no other spot and we really enjoy looking at it in the living area. I've put together a little display of vintage mirrors, a lamp, an old cash register drawer and a few other items. As I said, I like a lot of stuff!

We don't have a foyer, this is just a small three bedroom ranch so you just kind of fall into the living room but I have a low boy chock full of goodies right here by the front door. Do you see that old post in the corner? I know it's crazy but I love it. While we were visiting our sons in Savannah, I found it in a junky antique store ~ I just think it's a great souvenir of our trip.

Another crazy thing that I featured a long time ago when I first started this blog is the window above the fireplace that I put botanical prints in the panes ~ I just love it because it's different. And also, the room has a cathedral ceiling and it helps to fill the giant spanse of wall, too. Do you think that mantle will hold up much longer?? I might could fit a few more things on there . . . I know, I have the loveseat in front of the fireplace, but we never use it and I wanted to utilize the space.

One last little tidbit. I love this. Some vintage clip-on earrings are so beautiful. I have pierced ears and don't really want to wear the clip-ons but have found a wonderful way to enjoy them . . . I place one in the center of the top of a lamp shade to dress it up. This one has a pretty mother of pearl center ~ just a small way to give your lamp shade a little "bling." Thanks for looking!

xxoo, Dawn

Dawn, your home is just so very lovely. I have bedroom armoires and old dressers in places that are not a bedroom~i like how that looks. We have my husband's grand~parents' bedroom furniture and it doesn't all fit in our century~home sized bedrooms, so the armoire is in the dining room filled to the brim with my crafting supplies. Here's a cute thing I like to do with clip~on earrings. Marshalls and TJ Maxx always have gorgeous brocade napkins in the clearance, so you roll one around one of those cylinder pillow forms, tie up the ends with pretty ribbons and then clip the earring on where the edges meet in the center. Lovely.

One of my very favourite things in decorating...armoires with Stuff on top :)

My armoire's Stuff needs serious overhauling right now as it is waging war against the intrusion of Mr G's Home Stereo Tv Multi-Parted (Ugly) Surround Sound...thing...

Beautiful. Do you have a dusting fairy? ;-)

I'm still working on the whole style thing. I'm really not minimalist - that's not it. And I'm a visual person, so you'd think I'd be good at it. I just have a hard time making decisions about interiors. I still have the sad now vintage curtains up in the living room of the house we bought 3 years ago. They need to come DOWN and probably nothing would look better. Addition by subtraction. :-) ~ Dixie

Dawn,
I want to go home right now and look for my clip earings and dress up my lamp shades. That is such a cute idea.

Beautiful home, Dawn! You'd feel right at home in my house! =) I don't think my house will ever be "sparse"! What a sweet idea putting an earring on a lampshade!

It was so fun to visit your home. I felt very comfortable as I sat on your cozy sofa and admired your unique and wonderful collections. I love being surrounded by THINGS. They don't have to be grand or expensive. I love that they are things that are loved and have a previous life story to them. Loved your wardrobe and your clock collection.
I am not a minimalist as you have noticed at my blog!!!!!
I live in a ranch too. They can have their challenging points. I always wished I had a foyer to put some wonderful round marbletop table in just for looks. No places like that here! I make use of every corner and flat surface for my necessities and pretties.

Dawn, I love seeing pictures of your home. I too love stuff, but love to see and hear everyone's ideas about how to display it. So what if your loveseat covers your fire place---it's your house do what you want. Who makes up the decorating rules anyway??!! So crazy. Enjoy your space and please, please keep sharing.

At times, I think of myself as a minimalist because I find it so much easier to keep the house clean and stress free for me. But when I see homes like yours, I love the coziness that "stuff" brings to spaces. I'd much rather curl up with a good book in your place than in an empty space!

I'm always intrigued to see the pictures of the inside of one's home, it tells so much about a person. I love the buffet lined with old clocks, such a nice touch and the wardrobe is perfect where you have it.

Too, I love how you used the old window to frame the flowers, what a wonderful idea. I have a set of illustrations that I'd like to frame and they would go perfect in such a "frame."
